I’ll state from the outset that I am not a great fan of cordials. As a child, I was force fed the stuff whilst dreaming about guzzling anything carbonated and so as soon as I had any say in the matter, fizzy drinks became my tipple of choice and anything which you had water to became something to be drunk only in emergencies such as when you wake up with an awful hangover and your tongue is stuck to the top of your mouth! Anyway, all of this was before I discovered the delights of Robinsons Pink Grapefruit Smooth Fruit & Barley. Why did this stuff turn my head where all of it’s counterparts had failed I hear you ask – read on..
The Product -----------------
This cordial comes packaged in the standard Robinsons one litre bottle. This bottle is made out of clear plastic and is circular at the bottom but then begins to slowly taper into a corrugated cone at the top. This then culminates in an easy to twist of plastic cap and so the bottle can be sealed again when you have had your fill!
Robinsons is written in white letters on a green black ground upon the label and the letters are not that big which always indicates to me that this is a manufacturer that exudes confidence in both it’s brand name and the quality of it’s products. This brand name is then set up a rich green and purple checked background, which stems from their sponsorship of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships each year.
The drink itself is bright pink and opaque making it guaranteed to draw stares from anybody who sees you quaffing it! It is prepared by adding four parts water to one part cordial but I know of nobody who is so precise about this. Do you? You just know when it looks and tastes right don’t you? They do advise that you add some more water if the drink is to be consumed by toddlers though.
Price -------
I purchased my bottle from Tesco’s and it set me back 96p which is expensive when compared to the more no frills labels but I think that it is worth it for the extra quality. It is available in most stores which stock I wide range of Robinsons products but I do find that smaller stores will not stock it unfortunately.
They currently have an offer on the bottle whereby if you save 4 labels and send off £8.99 then they will send you a Polaroid camera worth £21.89 which seems to be to be a good deal, though I most admit that cameras are not my forte.
The Verdict ----------------
I do like pure grapefruit (both the regular and the pink variety) but the aftertaste can be quite harsh due to the nature of the fruit. This is where the cordial comes into it’s own. Robinsons somehow manage to reproduce the tastiness to a more than satisfactory extent but, through the introduction of sweeteners like Aspartame and Saccharin, they also reduce the aftertaste making it a completely delicious drink which is quite unlike any other cordial. I tend to find most cordials to be like water with added fruit whereas the highest compliment that I can pay this is that it tastes more like a weaker, thinner fruit juice which is not the most appetising way of putting it I know but trust me it works!

Sitting here at my computer drinking a nice cold glass of squash I suddenly realised that I hadn’t written an opinion about my preferred soft drink – what an omission!
So I asked Ciao to set up the relevant product category, which incidentally gets done very quickly these days, and now I’ll tell you all about it.
I do enjoy fruit squash in general but I don’t like it to be too sweet and sickly or too high in calories. Some of the orange squashes ... ...tried quite a few different flavours and have tried various low sugar and low calorie squashes. The best one that I found is Robinson’s Fruit and Barley Pink Grapefruit Squash with No Added Sugar. There are other flavours in this range but I happen to like the Pink Grapefruit flavour the best.
In Tesco’s at the moment it costs 99p for a one litre plastic bottle of this squash, but it is often on offer in most of the supermarkets at three for the ...

Quick review of Robinsons Fruit and Barley Pink Grapefruit
Personally I like the taste of grapefruit but do not think that the barley does anything to compliment it. I like the tesco high juice - (Pink grapefruit). Its more tangy and refreshing and grapefruity. Barley is not a thirst quenching taste and why robinsons have to put barley with everything i dont know! lol ...
