Advantages: Good for a rockery and excellent for wild life .

The rock rose is really a native from the Mediterranean area and it likes a sunny position. This plant is not common in Cornwall or in west Scotland but grows well in other parts of the country .Although the name is rock rose this plant is not a rose but the flowers are rose like. Beautiful tiny tight rose like petals

Advantages: easy to grow in most places, cheap and pretty
Disadvantages: none really

I love Rock Roses as it is one of the first alpine plants that I ever bought (and is still alive) which is a miracle for me. I choose Rock Rose as it is one of my favourites, easily available in garden centres/nurseries and like most alpines cost about £1.45 each. The Rock roses that I have in my rockery have quite long twiggy stems that grow upright and then bend over. In the spring the leaves on mine go paler but brighter and the little buds appear ...
...I just know them as rock roses. They grow in quite shady places, like between stones, cracks, crevices, but will tolerate quite a lot of sun. These plants are quite thirsty in the summer too, so water well. They don't particularly smell, but stand out against the darker plants in my collection. ...
