Review of Tilly Trotter - Catherine Cookson by fifipenrhyn

Advantages: Best Catherine Cookson novel -ever!
Disadvantages: none

...Catherine Cookson and recently read Tilly Trotter. I was engrosed in this novel and genuinely coudn't put it down! The story is excellent and I was enchanted! An amazing story! The great thing is that there follows two more novels: Catherine Cookson Married and Catherine Cookson Widowed - you think the titles gives the stories away, but that's not quite true! I enjoyed "Tilly Trotter" so much, I doubted the follow "Tilly Trotter Married" could ...
...- even the sequel "Widowed" was equally addictive. Once you've read the book don't forget to watch the film. It's around three hours long but unlike most adapted films, the producers did not edit half the story out! The film was exactualy how I imagined the characters and scenes to be like - that makes catherine cookson an excellent story teller! ... Read review

Diamond review   There Goes My Street Cred...
Review of The Solace of Sin - Catherine Cookson by KarenUK

Advantages: Good read, easy to get into, interesting characters
Disadvantages: Catherine Cookson's reputation for writing books for OAPs!

...I used to sneer at the shelves of Catherine Cookson novels in the library. There were always so many – how could an author who churned out all those novels expect them to be of any decent quality? An aspiring author myself, I was cynical about these books and saw no attraction in them. As far as I was concerned, they were devoured solely by the blue rinse brigade and held absolutely no interest to me, a woman in her thirties who loved a wide ...
...helping of chick lit in the middle. My mother-in-law works in the local library and often passes on the latest releases for me to read, before they go on the shelves for the unwashed masses to fight over. So it was that I came to have a Catherine Cookson novel in my possession, a weighty hardback entitled The Thursday Friend. Smirking, I knew exactly what to expect – a slushy historical romance, where some poor urchin overcomes the class ... Read review

She's a canny lass
Review of Pure as the Lily - Catherine Cookson by Wearsidelass

Advantages: Fantastic read
Disadvantages: You want to read more!

...ABOUT PURE AS THE LILY = Pure As The Lily is a fictional story based in Jarrow and traces the life of Mary Walton from the 1930s through to the 1970s . Mary’s father (da) Alex idolised her but he had been out of work for eight years during the dark years of the Depression and had been stripped of his self respect not only by unemployment but more so by his nagging, manipulative wife Alice. At one time he had held his head up ...
...Alex was shattered that his pure daughter had been taken by Ben. Alex knew that Alice wanted Ben. Alice was like a mad woman. She wanted revenge. Revenge on Mary. Revenge on Ben. She told Alex to be a man for once in his life and beat up Ben. She really wanted Ben beaten up because he had chosen Mary and not her. She hated Mary from this point onwards. Alex stormed up to the shop and, in front of the customers, beat Ben so badly that his once handsome ... Read review

Bill The perfect man
Review of Bill Bailey: An Omnibus - Catherine Cookson by busy

Advantages: Light and entertaining
Disadvantages: A little unreal

...they are very unbelievable because Bill Bailey is every woman's dream man. He is handsome, strong, protective, gentlemanly etc. He is too good to be true. Do any of us know a man that perfect? There were parts in these novels when I did find myself getting emotional and I would also say the books are hard to put down. Before reading these series of books I would have considered Catherine Cookson's books to be a bit like Mills and Boon but I have ... Read review
