Tally Ho
Review of Riders - Jilly Cooper by
kismet
Advantages: Keep you entertained for hours
Disadvantages: none
The series which starts with Riders is fantastic. Riders follows the life of Showjumping, in particular Rupert Campbell-Black, Billy Lloyd-Foxe and Jake Lovell . The storyline is fantastic, a lot of research has gone into the book and you can tell that Jilly Cooper is very proud of her work. I am the proud owner of a signed copy of Score, and I wouldn't part with it for anything.
Rupert comes across as a complete pig, and Billy as a loveable rogue. ... ...an american woman called Helen who adores him and thinks she can change his ways, however he carries on womanising. Billy marries a journalist called Janey who is an absolute bitch, and Jake marries fat but loveable Tory, mainly for her money, so he can compete with Rupert on an even level and exact revenge for past events.
Fen is Tory's sister, and she also plays a large part in the book.
Their lives are told with such passion, and enthusiasm, ...

Rivals-The best Jilly Cooper blockbuster
Review of Rivals - Jilly Cooper by
leopuss1
Advantages: Rupert Campbell- Black!
Disadvantages: none
...to expect.
I found Rivals absolutely unputdownable then, and when I have re-read it (many times now), I have been in the same situation and everything else I'm supposed to be doing gets forgotten!!! It revolves around a Gloucestershire TV station, which is run by Tony Baddingham, an enemy of Rupert Campbell-Black and a total b*****d! This is a much more romantic book than Riders, with less sex scenes and the further development of the caddish, wonderful ... ...Declan O'Hara, Freddie & Valerie Jones, James & Lizzie Vereker, and best of all, Taggie O'Hara. It is so funny, with Jilly's usual fabulous one-liners and riotous goings on, but it is also so touching and romantic in parts, that I was in floods. There are also some really exciting events, especially at the end, that you feel totally involved and wrung out once you've finished reading it! I love this book and cannot recommend it highly enough. ...

Dark Lover
Review of Dark Lover - J.R. Ward by
blackmagicstar4
Advantages: Gripping storyline, intense atmosphere, amazing language.
Disadvantages: Fast paced
* DARK LOVER - J.R Ward *- Spoilers included!!
BOOK ONE - Dark Lover is the first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. There are 6 books in total with all books following the same vampire family. These are romantic vampire novels. Each book is based on one of The Brotherhood Brothers. Even though each includes them all they are directed at one in particular and the major events that effects them. I had never heard of these books or the author ... ...*
The first book Dark Lover reveals the Brotherhood and is based in New York City. We find out there is a war going on between Vampires and Lessers. Lessers are de-souled humans who targets vampires for extermination. Lessers must be stabbed through the chest to be killed. The Lessers are indcuted by a society ran by the Omega. I thought this was strange as its usually Slayers are the good guys and Vampires are evil but in these books you sympathise ...

A Walk to Remember - Nicholas Sparks
Review of A Walk to Remember - Nicholas Sparks by
brookland56
Advantages: Hard to put down, Heart-warming
Disadvantages: It is not the same as the film
A Walk to Remember is one of those books that can be very hard to put down, it has to be said that this is a trait for all of Nicholas Sparks books. I was initially disappointed with A Walk to Remember, having been a big fan of the film it seemed a shame that the book is quite different. However this was no longer an issue once I got in to the story. The story is heart-wrenching and very capable of producing tears from even the most cold hearted ... ...and Jamie, two teenagers from a small town. Jamie is a Baptist whose father is the local minister, she is a very understanding and forgiving person. Landon is a bit of a 'rebel' getting into lots of trouble, he and Jamie do not see eye-to-eye. Slowly throughout the story they begin to get closer beginning a heart-warming romance. This romance suffers a twist of fate that leads it in a direction that neither would have imagined and turns Landon into ...

Disappointing but good for discussion
Review of The Memory Keeper's Daughter - Kim Edwards by
brokenangelkisses
Advantages: Beautiful language; interesting plot premise
Disadvantages: Plot neglected to allow characters thinking time
At the heart of this story is a worm of a secret that burrows so deep it tears a family apart. Layered over this core are the histories of several alternately sympathetic and irritating characters.
After delivering his (unexpected) twins, Doctor David Henry is disturbed to realise that, although the boy is perfect, the girl is a 'classic' 'mongoloid'. Much of the interest in this section springs from the dispassionate way in which he handles this ... ...David has instructed to hand the child over to an institution to live out (what he imagines) will be a short and pain filled life. All this is achieved before Norah, David's wife, even awakens after the birth. When she does, David impulsively tells her that Phoebe died at birth. It is this secret that will rub away at their relationship over the ensuing years.
Caroline Gill, a lonely nurse who harbours feelings for the doctor, cannot bear to hand ...
