Yesterday I told you about a toy drum; today I am going to tell you about the Rompa multi Guiro. Rompa is a world leader in sensory equipment products. We have a lot of Rompa equipment at work (special needs school).

The Guiro is a Latin-American percussion instrument originally made with a gourd. The Rompa multi Guiro is made of stainless steel it is a guiro but also a shaker as one of the cap at the end is filled with material that makes a noise when shaken.
This guiro looks like a shiny metal cylindrical torpedo shaped capsule. It has 2 textures on its surfaces. There is a large texture of raised grooves on one side of the cylinder and has finer textured grooves.

To play the Guiro you rasp /grate a metal comb over the ridges. Often a comb is provided when you buy the instrument.

The sound that the guiro makes is perfect for some tunes we play and sing.
The guiro is not that difficult to play just rub the comb ort stick up and down the ridges.

This is quite a simple instrument for our children to play some may need a little support holding grasping the comb / stick and moving it up and down on the ridges

I like the sound that the Guiro makes.

This instrument is well made and ours is several years old now and should last many more.
