Corbett's autobiography should top every prescription. But its comedy is leavened with heart-warming seriousness as he looks back to his infancy in an Edinburgh tenement. This always-small son of a bookish mother and bread-baking father still remembers the delicious cooking smells of his childhood. After his national service he passed out as a pilot officer, but quickly gravitated to the stage, enduring fearful digs with exploding bathroom geysers on his peregrinations round the country. He got his first break working with Danny La Rue at Winston's nightclub in Mayfair, where David Frost spotted him, invited him to tea at the Ritz, and asked him to star in his TV show "The Frost Report". There he met John Cleese, the Pythons and most importantly Ronnie Barker--cue "The Two Ronnies". But not everyone in these programmes was a big showbiz name: one Sonny Farrar was billed as "five foot of fun and a banjo"; Corbett, meanwhile, was pally with some of the great train robbers before they robbed the train. His marriage to singer Anne Hart has been idyllically happy. He still has the programme of her New Zealand tour in "Annie Get Your Gun", which lists the names of the Kiwi amateur chorus including an aspiring soprano called Kiri Te Kanawa.Corbett is both self-deprecating and life-enhancing--a rare combination of qualities. He says he needs "the furnace of danger" to excite his talent, but he must have wondered what hit him when Joan Littlewood demanded a method-style approach to the part of Will Scarlet in "Twang". "Do you know who his mother and father were, and what motivated him?" The show was a disaster--no merry men attended this Robin Hood--and Littlewood stormed out of the Savoy bearing a poster felt-tipped with the immortal words LIONEL'S FINAL F***-UP. --Betty Tadman

Advantages: A great read, if you like his humour, you'll love this book Disadvantages: Sad in places
...I've always been a fan of the 2 Ronnies, and was gutted whenever Ronnie Barker died. This is the story of the 2 Ronnies, how they met, and their career in showbusiness.
This is autoboigraphical in a way, it catalogues RonnieCorbett's life, but soon, Ronnie Barker's presence takes over the story, and it seems more of a memoir than a biography.
This book is written in a very conversational style, you can hear Ronnie's voice as he tells the story, and he paints some of the places in such detail that you feel you're there. If you like RonnieCorbett's humour, you'll love this book, if you don't, you'll find the style of this book really grating.
This book takesus up to the present day, and paints a very different side of the 2 Ronnies than we have seen on TV. You see their lives offscreen and what sort of people they really were...

Advantages: Highly entertaining Disadvantages: Can't think of any
...This is one of the best autobiographies that I have read - and I have read quite a few (Ronnie Barker, RonnieCorbett, Mo Mowlam to name but a few!). I was fortunate enough to pick my (battered but still readable) copy at a church fayre for 10p!
Charting the career of this lovable and aristocratic actor through his career, starting with how he got into acting, his life in the USA, his life in the RAF during the war and how he got back into acting after the war.
It discusses some of his many friendships, particularly with Errol Flynn, and contains approximately 20-25 balc and white photographs of him, his friends and his family.
I don't want to give too much away, as I whole heartedly recommend that you buy and read the book (even if it is a little old) but ......
The title of the book derives its name from the director...

Advantages: Funny, honest, endearing and engaging. Disadvantages: Sometimes you want to shout "Get a grip on yourself, man".
...You spend all of those years as a member of the Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World, and you end up, unsurprisingly, with drug and alcohol problems and frequent trips to rehab. More of a surprise is the revelation that Ronnie Wood never had much in the way of cash through these seemingly plentiful, hay-making years, and when he did, he did his best to blow it all as quickly as possible.
That he seems to be on more of an even financial keel nowadays comes as a huge relief to the reader, because, above all, he comes across as a decent, honest bloke who would happily share a pint with you. Of lemonade, these days, I guess.
A cut above the usual rock star autobiography for its candour, its wide-eyed naivety, and eye-popping tales of Miami drug dealers, life on the road and with the family. Almost worth the cover price just...
