    My favourite kind of holiday consists of touring by car, stopping along the way to visit sites of interest, to go for walks, and to eat and drink well, but I don't take many holidays of this kind in Britain. That's partly because it's much easier, from where I live in Kent, to cross the channel than to battle my way round the M25 to the more scenic parts of my own country.
