Ross Kemp on Afghanistan - Ross Kemp

He has played an East End hardman, an SAS soldier and investigated vicious world gangs. Now Ross Kemp is taking on perhaps his hardest assignment of all - the Taliban. In order to... more...prepare for this life-threatening ordeal, Ross Kemp trains with the First Battalion Royal Anglians in England's subzero temperatures, practicing firing SA 80 rifles and .50 calibre machine guns, getting to know the soldiers and learning the tactics they use to stay alive. Sent with them to Camp Bastion in Afghanistan's Helmand province, he immerses himself fully: he endures the stifling heat, the constant threat of snipers, RPG attacks, suicide bombers and land mines. In short, he discovers first hand what it's like to fight on the frontline. It's the closest he's ever come to dying - bullets fizzing inches from his head as they hit the ground on either side of him. After two harrowing and arduous months Ross returns to England, but there is little relief to be had as he meets the mothers of soldiers killed in the conflict. Then in September 2008 he goes back to the war zone, to see how the men he grew so close to are faring, to check how many of them are still alive. It's a fascinating, horrifying and often moving insight into the brutal reality ordinary soldiers have to face in one of the world's most dangerous and volatile regions. About the AuthorBorn in Essex in 1964, Ross Kemp is best known for his portrayal of Grant Mitchell in EastEnders. His father was a senior detective with the Metropolitan Police force, but before that he served in the army for four years. His regiment was amalgamated with others to form the Royal Anglians, the troops Ross was with in Afghanistan.

Ross Kemp on Gangs - The Show

Advantages: Very Interesting
Disadvantages: None

never watched any other shows of the same type which get such an in-depth look at what goes on. This is very much down to the way Ross interacts with the gangs. Afterall, the gang must first trust Ross and the film crew before giving them anything at all. Brillaint show, well worth watching if you haven't already. Well earned Bafta for best factual series. 10/10 *****Other***** Related Shows - 'Ross Kemp in Afghanistan' I've only seen a lttle bit of this but didn't find it nearly as interesting as 'Ross Kemp on Gangs' Channel - Sky1 ...

Through Ross's eyes

Advantages: Amazing information and tear jerking moments of reality
Disadvantages: Would like to have seen even more footage

Ross Kemp In Afghanistan DVD Lang- English Disc Format- DVD 9 + 5 Run Time- 225 Mins 2 Disc Edition Episodes- 1-5 Subtitles for hard of hearing A Tiger Aspect and Mongoose Production. Cert 15 Release 2008 As i am a fan of Tiger Aspect productions i was interested to see how a documentary of this calibre would be portrayed. This company is one of the most successful production companies in the UK. With my own partner serving in Iraq at present i also wanted to see a side of soldier life that is similuar to his. I am also a fan of Ross Kemp's Series of Gangs and wanted to compare his performance in each. I found the DVD very informational and quite heart rendering. In both Ross Kemp talks openly and honestly about his feelings and opinions. He also shows his emotions towards the bravery of the soldiers in ...

Review of Ross Kemp In Afghanistan (DVD)

~ Return to the Frontline ~

Advantages: Realism of War, Opinions from soldiers and locals.
Disadvantages: none

Return to the Frontline ~ I brought this DVD after watching the first series from Ross Kemp last year. I have always shared an interest in these war documentaries and this series interested me not just because of the actor Ross but also of the reality of the Afghanistan War we are currently fighting. This series is a five part documentary which was aired on Sky One and shows Ross Kemp staying and following the action of modern warfare by British Soldiers. In the two series he and a small film crew take part in operations and follow the soldiers into the frontline with the Taliban. The series is very addictive and when I had received the series on DVD from Play.com I watched the whole thing in two nights. I think it is a great way of showing civilians what our soldier go through in the most dangerous war at current time. It ...
