When I purchased my Syrian Hamster she was in quite a small, single level cage. She was getting quite big, and to be honest I wanted to get her something a little bigger to live in.
I came across this cage in my local Pets at Home store, it was price in excess of £50 and was quite pricey. But since, it was a one off purchase I decided to go ahead.
Part of what attracted me to the cage was the detachable carry case. Plus I thought it just looked cool as well.
As well as the carry case, it has a main section (this is quite deep, and so could be used as a play area or perhaps filled with a lot of sawdust so that your hamster can burrow), a smaller living area with an exercise wheel attached, and a 'Dining Room'. The Dining Room has an attachment for a water bottle, and also slide out draws that can be filled with food.
All of these sections are connected by standard horizontal or vertical tubes. However, as you can see from the image, the Dining Room and large basement section are connected by a large winding tube.
In terms of assembly and cleaning, however, this cage can be a bit of a pain. Assembling the rooms is dead easy, but the curvey tube can be a nightmare. You really have to be careful when removing it to clean the cage, to make sure you don't break the tubes where they are connected to each other. As a result, I normally only clean the tubes every other week, as they don't tend to smell at all. Unfortunately, they can sometimes present a bit of a problem for older hamsters, as mine sometimes has a little difficulty getting up the tube.
The wheel can tend to get a bit stiff, and you may find you have to oil the centre to keep it moving freely.
Overall, this is a very fun cage, and has quite a lot of room to expand it, and to fill with toys, etc. Just as long as you don't mind it taking a while to clean it out every week!
