Good? - not anymore
Advantages: looks good, robust and easy to use Disadvantages: must be plugged into a computer, slow, times out if left on for too long
I bought the netgear gd834g router a few years ago now and it was a brillant little device. Firstly, it is a nice size, it is not massive but it is very robust making it very hard to brake. It also looks good to, it has a sleek white design which looks great alongside an apple computer and a very clear display of lights. In total the router has 8 display lights, one which shows the power, a tick to show its loading up a disabled light, wireless projection ... ...into it. However over time this router has become old fashioned and out of date compare to some of the new ones on the market at the present time. Firstly it akes about 5-10mins to load up. secondly it has to always be plugged into a computer compare to some of the new ones which ...

Belkin 802.11g
Advantages: Small and lightweight Disadvantages: Problems ever since day 1!!!!!!!!!
I bought this router from PC World for £29.99 about 3 months ago. (I also bought a new computer from PC World - so the manager used her discretion and reduced it from £44.99)
When I first plugged it up to the computer, I found that I could use my laptop wirelessly. It was top of the range and has a 2.4Ghz processing speed. I was enjoying wireless broadband connection, until, suddenly, the internet on both the host computer and my laptop went dead.
... ...reinstall it, change the internet connection, and try and re-configure it. I couldn't and decided to phone thier helpline. I cannot complain about the customer service. They knew exactly what to do to solve the situation, however this was not a long term solution, as I found out later!
A strange program was loaded, and I could modify the details. It worked - I couldn't believe my eyes!!! About three days later the problem persisted yet again.
For ...

Best £100 i ever spent, Seriously.
Advantages: Looks Great, lots of features, High speeds, Can connect to 16 computers wirelessly at once. Disadvantages: Stand and back is made from cheap material, And Nothing else is wrong with it.
Bought this a few month ago, got to say out of all the routers such as Netgear, D-link Etc i found this to be the easiest to use, the most secure and just simply the best thanks to its many, many.. MANY features. Design Well what can i say, its sleek its modern and its just beautiful. The material in the black is the same as they use on iphones, which gives it a modern, reflective, "glassy" kind of look to it. The small screen is not the most ... ...amazing because of the material around it showing off the blue of the screen. It is really light, i mean REALLY light, i was shocked because it looked like a fairly heavy object when i first saw it. The buttons on the front are smooth and reliable and can be used to navigate around the built in menu and panels easily, even with big fingers. I give the design a 9 out of 10 simply because instead of the cheap plastic that they used for the silver colored ...

No problems with this Belkin!
Advantages: Lots of connection points Disadvantages: Big plug!
...IP address. I called the Belkin helpcentre (which is a lo-call number), and they were very helpful, they found my IP address and directed me to an 'online' page which houses all of my info about the router. Here, I can change my security settings or test my internet connection amongst other things, and I dont have to be online to do so. I've had no problems with it at all since. I play online games a lot, and had to change the settings to allow UPNP ... ...plugged in and haven't once been unable to connect (touch wood). It has plenty of connection points and is small enough to be tucked away easily. The only thing I would say is that the plug is huge! But this is a minor gripe and doesn't affect the performance at all. It also comes with its own firewall which is good for extra security.
Overall, I found it easy to use, easy to re-set during the initial set up problems, and the helpdesk was very helpful ...

Linksys's Lightning fast wireless router
Advantages: Fast speeds, Reliable, Stylish Disadvantages: I had wireless problems, Gets a bit warm, no restart router option in config
The Linksys WAG160N N300 is an ADSL2+ wireless modem router, meaning it has a a modem built in. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. It’s an ADSL2 router, which means it supports the newer ADSL standard, which could mean faster transfer speeds although this really depends on your line quality, distance from Exchange, service with ... ...N RangeMax USB dongle, a Linksys Wireless N USB dongle and even a Negear PCI 54G wireless card. The machines are only about 7 metres from the router with just one wall with a window so not sure why. Interference en-route? Switching to a Belkin wireless router resolved the problem so I’m suspecting the Belkin performs better than the Linksys, which is a shame for the Linksys. On a brighter note, the wireless connection on my PC when I was using the ...
