Netgear DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router
Advantages: Connection speed is really good and range is quite wonderful Disadvantages: Sometimes gets disconnected
I have used Netgear router and based on my experience i can say that performance wise its really good. There are some problems like connection gets disconnected sometimes but that happens because of other frequencies as well, so if you configure your router in a good way, it really gives you a great output.
It's key features are:
5 in 1: Modem, router, firewall, 4-port switch & wireless access point ,Compatible with 802.11b wireless networks and ... ...best thing i like about this is that The built-in True Firewall features Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and Denial of Service (DOS), which operate as your first line of attack against intruders. The DG834G provides both WEP and WPA-PSK wireless encryption standards to protect your network from eavesdroppers and bandwidth pinchers ...

No problems with this Belkin!
Advantages: Lots of connection points Disadvantages: Big plug!
...IP address. I called the Belkin helpcentre (which is a lo-call number), and they were very helpful, they found my IP address and directed me to an 'online' page which houses all of my info about the router. Here, I can change my security settings or test my internet connection amongst other things, and I dont have to be online to do so. I've had no problems with it at all since. I play online games a lot, and had to change the settings to allow UPNP ... ...plugged in and haven't once been unable to connect (touch wood). It has plenty of connection points and is small enough to be tucked away easily. The only thing I would say is that the plug is huge! But this is a minor gripe and doesn't affect the performance at all. It also comes with its own firewall which is good for extra security.
Overall, I found it easy to use, easy to re-set during the initial set up problems, and the helpdesk was very helpful ...

NetGear DG834N Wireless Router
Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed Disadvantages: None found yet
...router behind a hallway cupboard. Netgear supply the router with a small stand and insist that it is always kept upright. This is I presume to allow adequate ventilation. The router allows you to set up port forwarding and comes with a few predefined services. The ones I required were not shown in that list so I had to set mine up myself which is pretty straightforward if you know what ports the various services that you set up require. Security ... ...happen. When I visited the Netgear website I found a firmware update and it’s more than likely that any future changes to the ‘N’ standard would be reflected in further firmware updates. Applying the firmware update was as simple as it could be. You simply download the file from the Netgear website (www.netgear.com) and access it from within the routers web interface. It takes a few moments to apply the update and then it automatically reboots itself. ...

Ideal wireless router for home networking
Advantages: Fast, reliable with good range Disadvantages: poor customer support from netgear
...Only complaint would be with netgear themselves, ringing up customer support is not very helpful, if you have a problem typically the technicians seem to just read off a sheet and don't actually listen to your problems which can be frustrating.
Setup is quite simple, technically no installation cd is needed although it is provided. Contecting via a network cable first the router can be accessed through a web browser and setup quite easily. The setup ...

Belting Belkin Router!
Advantages: Fairly easy to set up, easy to use, reliable, looks good. Disadvantages: Bandwidth Innacurate.
...previous router was also a belkin so I can't say if this was a reason for us not really needing to put too much into the router settings but it worked straight away; the only thing we did was put in our passwords to make the router and the network secure. These are both done in the router settings browser that you get to by typing your assigned address which will generally be a selection of numbers and full stops something like 192.246.4.1 (it beings ... ...to getting in touch with Belkin about it.
It also didn't recognise my fiancés computer on the wireless when we first set it up, after a lot of messing about I discovered it was because I had set the security mode to WPA2 instead of just WPA. I mention this because my computer will handle WPA2 as it's a newer system, however my fiancés is an older system and it didn't get on well with it. I thought it was worth noting as you may have a set up similar ...
