Great Mid-Range router
Advantages: Good price, reliable, lifetime warranty, easy setup Disadvantages: No way to add an external antenna
I bought the 3Com router after having countless problems with my previous router (Linksys WAG354G *shudder*). The set-up is suprisingly easy to be honest, especially with the step-by-step instruction booklet (only a few pages long, and in 5 or 6 languages). All that was needed was to plug in the ADSL filter (into the landline socket), connect the line to the back of the router, plug in the power supply and connect the ethernet cable (the large-ish ... ...only two negatives for me are: There's no way to add your own antenna to the router and the fact that you can't limit the traffic for WiFi or local use.
Overall the 3Com officeconnect is a great mid-range adsl router with easy setup and a great performance record. ...

3Com - Mind Blowing Wireless Range!
Advantages: Awesome Value for Money, Great Setup Utility Disadvantages: Not the best looking object in the world!
...simple to set-up.
The 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless Router ticks all these requirements. I originally purchased one for a client, and I was surprised at how easy the installation was, especially since they used dreaded AOL! Many manuals for routers are usually of two distinct formats: horrendously complicated jargon-spewing bohemoths aimed at network professionals with accreditation from Cisco, or are partonising pamphlets covering the "perfect" install, ... ...DOES sit in the background. It DOES provide fast and reliable networking in your home and it DOES have a very powerful wireless range. For under £40, I doubt you will find a better deal. Now all 3Com need to do is work on the unit's looks ;) ...

3Com Office connect Dual 56K LAN Modem (3Com Part No. 3C888)
This little box does virtually everything that can be done with a modem / phone line system shared over an ethernet network, but configuration options could be more flexible and there are too many flaws still to be ironed out.
~Why would anyone want one?~
Anyone who has read my Ciao opinion on Telewest’s SurfUnlimited will know that I have a 24/7 dial up account for just £10 per ... ...day and I saw the 3Com dual Lan Modem at a bargain price – so I bought it. You might not think that £199 inc VAT is a bargain price, but considering that it includes 2 quality modems and a router/DHCP/firewall etc etc I think that this is not bad – if it does the job.
3Com have helpfully given this device a name which describes what it does – it contains two independent 56K modems and attaches to your LAN. There is a 4 port 10Mb/s ...

First experiences
Advantages: Ability to save configuration so it is easy to setup other 3COM wireless devices conneting to this one Disadvantages: Config save only works with 3COM devices. Required firmware update to work with my Modem
...get them to work. Fortunately 3Com have made this easy if you are using other 3Com devices as you can save the keys and load them in to your other 3Com devices.
The web based control interface is reasonable and there is a wizard to take you through the initial set up. The rest is up to you and it really is not a gentle experience. There are Help screens to explain things but the options are not presented in the most useful order for the average ... ...In all it was easy to set up, but does require some determination to set up the security correctly. My wife, who uses it most, has not noticed any down side since she went wireless. This is the best measure of success for any network device. ...

The best on the market for the home user
Advantages: East set up - the best PLUG & PLAY device I have ever come across - true to it's word!, Great coverage, Great protection of the wireless network Disadvantages: Not linked to the mother computer via USB - you must have a LAN card installed
...is white, with a small 3com logo on the side. It is, all in all, a fairly attractive thing.
Manual/Support:
The manual comes folded up, and expands out into a huge piece of paper, with about 6 steps. The instructions for set up are clear and concise, and, everything going accprding to plan, you should have the whole unit set up in about 10 minutes. I at present have had no need to contact technical support, but all of the numbers are provided clearly ... ...the ADSL line, the power cable, and the LAN line that is connected to your computer (Note - you must have a LAN card installed for the device to work), you just turn on the computer, and everything is up and running - there is not even a driver to be installed. You just follow the instructions in the manual, get onto the internet, follow the easy on screen instructions, and you're away! All of this takes under 10 minutes.
Wireless Coverage:
