Belkin 802.11g

Advantages: Small and lightweight
Disadvantages: Problems ever since day 1!!!!!!!!!

I bought this router from PC World for £29.99 about 3 months ago. (I also bought a new computer from PC World - so the manager used her discretion and reduced it from £44.99) When I first plugged it up to the computer, I found that I could use my laptop wirelessly. It was top of the range and has a 2.4Ghz processing speed. I was enjoying wireless broadband connection, until, suddenly, the internet on both the host computer and my laptop went dead. ...
...reinstall it, change the internet connection, and try and re-configure it. I couldn't and decided to phone thier helpline. I cannot complain about the customer service. They knew exactly what to do to solve the situation, however this was not a long term solution, as I found out later! A strange program was loaded, and I could modify the details. It worked - I couldn't believe my eyes!!! About three days later the problem persisted yet again. For ...

A great solution for fewer wires!

Advantages: Works like a charm
Disadvantages: Slow to connect, pricey.

...up two basic models, the Netgear XE102 for less than £35 for the pair. There are faster models, but as they were purely for sharing the internet, the connection being 2Mbps - with a top speed of 14Mbps they should cover most broadband connections with room to spare. Setup seemed simple enough. I was concerned about the electrics in the house as they are obviously suceptable to "imaginative" wiring and also old wiring. My initial attempts were plagued ...
...especially for online gaming or transferring of large files. At this these Netgear Powerline adapters really excel. it's a shame they are so expensive but they are clever little things. dead easy to setup, work with all types of networking equipment including routers and once setup need virtually no maintenance. ...

As easy to use as it gets and it works !!

Advantages: easy to set up and use, works 2 mins out of the box,
Disadvantages: a slight loss of speed, the odd drop out (rare)

This product must be unique in computing, its easy to use! In fact its the easiest electronic device ive ever used. Whats more it dose exactly what it says on the box. The whole set up takes about 2 mins, you simply plug your pc in one unit and the internet modem/router in to the other unit, plug them into the mains and thats it,it works! One big surprise was that you do NOT need to plug into a direct socket, and extention cable and even a muti point ...
...much, a little loss of speed and the very rare chance of a gap in reception. This product can be a god send, if you are not great at setting up computer add ons then this is for you or ,if like me, you have what looks like an impossible connection problem (my desk top has to be wired and is a long way from the internet router) this product solves the problem in an instant. I was very impressed ...

Share your printer wirelessly

Advantages: Nice looking, good selection of features
Disadvantages: Can be tricky to set up, no support for bi-directional printers

...as well as the proprietry Netgear RangeMax standard. It also copes fine with both WEP and WPA-PSK encryption, the latter being more secure and should be used if at all possible. The device's main selling point though is its ability to let PCs communicate with a printer wirelessly. The device has 2 USB ports allowing you to connect and use two different printers either from the wired network or via the wireless connection. A small office or home ...
...a single decent printer between all the machines saving on hardware costs. Another option would be to connect a laser printer for letters and a photo printer for, well, photos and have these available to all. If you have an older parallel port printer then you're out of luck. Set up is handled via a pair of wizards, one for adding PCs to the network ports and a second for setting up the printers. These work well and will get you up and running nicely. ...

Network Magic

Advantages: Fast network solution, very easy to setup
Disadvantages: Slightly too wide for some sockets

...same cable. - The ZyXEL PLA-401 - I decided on the 200Mbps as it's obviously faster than 1.0 and the cost difference isn't very much (for me it was around £30 more). The ZyXEL PLA-401 is a twin pack (contains two devices). Having just one is pointless as you need at least two to make it work. You can add up to 16 devices around the house and they are compatible with power extensions so you can just find an empty socket anywhere in the house. ...
...that the width of these devices are slightly larger than small power extensions so you may find there is an overlap and you might find it difficult to plug them next to another electric plug. These devices are often called bridges. A network bridge connects separate networks together, so these devices 'bridge' your home network (the router) with your computer in another part of the house. - Installation - The package contains two devices (one ...
