Low Cost Enterprise Security Firewall Router
Advantages: Powerful, Easy to configure, Good support, Low cost Disadvantages: Needs extra 'modem' for each broadband Connection, Occasional reboots required
...2950 ENTERPRISE FIREWALL The Draytek Vigor 2950 Enterprise Firewall is a hardware firewall and router aimed at medium sized to large businesses. I’ve set up and am using six of these routers at a certain company with offices around London and have been using them for a few years now and was done as an upgrade from the Draytek Vigor 2600 and 2800 routers that were previously in use. The reason for the upgrade to the 2950 was due to the VPN (Virtual ... ...company), hence the choice of Draytek routers, as they all have a built-in VPN function. VPN enables users to connect to a network from anywhere that has an Internet connection (and a computer obviously). A user ‘dials in’ to a VPN account with a username and password that’s set up by the administrator beforehand and the process is similar to how you would dial out using your phone line to your ISP if using a dialup Internet connection. Instead of ...

Bargain Bulletproof firewall?
Advantages: Relatively cheap to get, good number of features Disadvantages: Not for the faint hearted, lots of options, and complicatd
...Ebay I came across this Draytek router. It is a not very well known brand, but well tested on the various web pages. I bought it for £20, which was a bargain. With it I bought a four port hub (Netgear EN104) so I could connect both PCs. Note that I have the 2200 version, not the 2200 USB. Mine connects to both the Cable Modem and lan using normal network cables.
The setup is controlled through a web browser, using a graphical interface. As I said, ... ...- NAT firewall
The Draytek Vigor 2200 gives complete control over the ports, allowing you to open or close them to accept or prevent certain traffic. This can be set per assigned IP address, for example, I can use my work laptop with a number of ports open to allow Virtual Private Networking, whereas the other computers remain protected. An example of the level of protection is that when I installed the Router I had Zonealarm installed, which until ...

Router that is great for P2P
Advantages: Speed, Reliable, Amount of connections Disadvantages: Can only forward 10 ports
I reciently purchased a Draytek Vigour 2600x.
This router/modem can be used on both ISDN and ADSL lines; it has a 4 port hub/switch so that 4 computers can connect directly to it. It is also possible to connect another hub/switch to extend the capability.
The reason I bought this was that I use P2P file sharing often and my father used his PC for online gaming, with other routers I have had I have found that when a P2P program i.e. Torrents is ... ...to lag.
With this router though there is no problems, it allocates bandwidth to where it is needed. I have also never had to restart this router since I installed it, which was a common problem with other routers.
Installation is very easy as it has its own settings detector, all you need to do is pop in your username and password and you're away.
A service which I also like is the uPNP which allows programs to open ports within the router automatically ...

A Very Long Name For Something That Just Sits There And Works!
Advantages: Highly configurable Disadvantages: That bloody light
The Netgear Rangemax Dual-band Wireless-N Router WNDR3300 – phew, there, I’ve said it. In reality, it’s a smart gloss black and silver slab about the size of a paperback with lots of pretty lights, the more of these that flash the cleverer you are – a maxim I’ve stuck by ever since dial-up modems!. What, you mean you want more? Give me strength – it’s only a bit of computer kit, get a grip. OK, OK, here goes. My existing Linksys wireless-g router ... ...of your wi-fi transmitter) from NETGEAR to something more meaningful to you. If you don’t, there’ll no doubt be someone out there who knows that if it’s still called NETGEAR, then it’s ‘10p to a bag of horse ordure’ that its logon\password is still ‘Admin’ and ‘Password’, the upshot of which is to give a stranger access to your wi-fi encryption, or worse still, lets them hi-jack it so you can’t even use it yourself! Of course, changing the latter ...

Ciso Routers Rock!
Advantages: It comes with Customer Support phone numbers as well as online help Disadvantages: None
...so we bought the Cisco Linksys router. It was SO easy to set up. We just hooked it right into our cable modem and then reset everything. It runs like a charm, and they even have both written instructions as well as online help. We called the 1-800 number and they talked us through the set up. It was SO easy. I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone who needs additional lines for their computers! There have been absolutely NO problems with the router ...
