Good? - not anymore
Advantages: looks good, robust and easy to use Disadvantages: must be plugged into a computer, slow, times out if left on for too long
I bought the netgear gd834g router a few years ago now and it was a brillant little device. Firstly, it is a nice size, it is not massive but it is very robust making it very hard to brake. It also looks good to, it has a sleek white design which looks great alongside an apple computer and a very clear display of lights. In total the router has 8 display lights, one which shows the power, a tick to show its loading up a disabled light, wireless projection ... ...into it. However over time this router has become old fashioned and out of date compare to some of the new ones on the market at the present time. Firstly it akes about 5-10mins to load up. secondly it has to always be plugged into a computer compare to some of the new ones which ...

Ideal wireless router for home networking
Advantages: Fast, reliable with good range Disadvantages: poor customer support from netgear
...Only complaint would be with netgear themselves, ringing up customer support is not very helpful, if you have a problem typically the technicians seem to just read off a sheet and don't actually listen to your problems which can be frustrating.
Setup is quite simple, technically no installation cd is needed although it is provided. Contecting via a network cable first the router can be accessed through a web browser and setup quite easily. The setup ...

Netgear DGN200 Wireless Router what a pain
Advantages: good when finally installed Disadvantages: hard to install
I admit my computer knowledge is limited but I was led to believe this was an easy product to install on my home computer. I thought the instructions seemed easy to follow but when steps didn't go to plan I became stuck and confused.
Next steps I phoned thecustomer helpline and was greeted with questions I didn't know the answer to and probally wouldn't have unless I had a degree in computing.
All I can say is what a waste of my time trying to ... ...good friend that works within the computer industry to come and help install the router. They said this wasn't an uncommon problem but does need improvement for everyday people to use.
Now it is finally installed properly I have a working home network and haven't come across too many problems. ...

The most cost effective router "routed out"
Advantages: Affordable and reliable Disadvantages: Difficult to set up
...purchase was the "starter kit" Netgear WGR614 Cable/DSL 54 Mbps Wireless Router, from Argos. I paid £56.99 for it as of early August 2008. Note that I did not buy the router on its own; Argos offered in this starter kit a USB adapter or "dongle" as I shall refer to it from now on. This is essential for setting up a wireless network, as it allows the router to send information from your modem to the computer you are trying to get internet on. Most ... ...so do not need one of these. Desktops however will usually need a dongle.
Argos listed the specifications as follows:
* Starter kit including a wireless 54Mbps cable router and USB adapter.
* Speed 54Mbps.
* Range 100m (speed and range indication will vary due to environmental and other factors).
* Built-in firewall.
* WEP and WPA security built-in.
* 1 external antenna.
* Compatible with 802.11b/g wireless standards.
* 4 Ethernet ports.

RP614 Websafe Router
Advantages: Fast, easy to set up, clean design Disadvantages: takes over internet explorer page
I would recomend this router to anyone that needs upto 4 pc's connected to the internet in the home that has children that accesses the internet as you can block website's by address and it is easy to setup, there is only two downside's that I can find and that is if you plan to use this as a network hub then it can be anoying as it will make your home page the router login page, you do need a modem with an network (RJ-45) connection to it. The setup ... ...you put in your log on password and user name and that is about it for the setup. As for the website block this is good as some other routers uses the key word method for blocking sites this method is only recommended for office use as this can block a regular site like the BBC's site if it has the word sex anywahere on the site. Overall the router is a must if you have children who access the internet on there own pc. ...
