Excellent value for Money and easy to use
Advantages: Easy Installation, reliable, good value Disadvantages: Limited customer services
The ZyXel Prestige router is affordable and reliable. I haven't set up a wireless network before so was happy to discover that the Prestige was easy to install and set-up with a multimedia presentation and documnetation to guide you through the process. The router provides a fast, reliable ADSL connection and the small, unobtrusive unit can be easily hidden out of site. The unit provides great value for money as it comes with a free USB connector ...

Network Magic
Advantages: Fast network solution, very easy to setup Disadvantages: Slightly too wide for some sockets
...same cable.
- The ZyXEL PLA-401 -
I decided on the 200Mbps as it's obviously faster than 1.0 and the cost difference isn't very much (for me it was around £30 more). The ZyXEL PLA-401 is a twin pack (contains two devices). Having just one is pointless as you need at least two to make it work. You can add up to 16 devices around the house and they are compatible with power extensions so you can just find an empty socket anywhere in the house.
... ...that the width of these devices are slightly larger than small power extensions so you may find there is an overlap and you might find it difficult to plug them next to another electric plug.
These devices are often called bridges. A network bridge connects separate networks together, so these devices 'bridge' your home network (the router) with your computer in another part of the house.
- Installation -
The package contains two devices (one ...

nice idea, but faulty by design.
Advantages: its white, which is nice, if you have macs everywhere. Disadvantages: adsl unreliable, debvice unreliable, firmware faulty.
i bought one of these and the first thing i noticed was that the router fails the window connectivity test (upnp section). it would also drop out the adsl connection for no apparent reason wheras my netgear dg834g would never do.
i then tried a firmware update and this made no difference. the upnp just stops working completely after around 5-10 mins of operation and does not return unless you reboot the router.
later the whole router started resetting ... ...the exact same experience again.
i never got to try the homeplug av part of it. i was attracted by the £50 price tag on pc worlds website, lets just say you cannot get a 54g adsl router and homeplug for £50, coz these things are very poor indeed.
the 2 worst routers i have ever used have both been Zyxel.
why is upnp important? well if you have a ps3 or wii then you'll soon find out they dont connect properly with this pile of cack. probably xbox ...

Great Multimedia Wireless Router from Belkin
Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine
INTRO The Belkin N+ router is one of the higher end (consumer) wireless modem router offerings from Belkin. It cost me £85 from PC World, but can probably be found for a bit less if you shop online. The Cable version costs a little less. Reason I bought this one was because two PCs in the house with wireless cards kept losing the wireless connection when I was using a Linksys router (my own PCs / laptops were fine though!). I replaced that with ... ...the performance of that cheaper Belkin router, I decided to stick with Belkin and get this one! DESIGN The router looks very stylish and stands up tall rather than laid down flat. It doesn’t appear to have been designed to be laid down flat like many other routers, which may be to maximise signal strength by standing it taller. It has two antenna sticking out at the top which can be adjusted and it’s got loads of LED lights which light up icons ...

Orange Livebox, how does it measure up.
Advantages: small and stylish Disadvantages: slow, unreliable.
Right, where to start. For a wireless router it is not really the best. I have had it about 6-7 months and to be honest I have used better but as it is part of my broadband service I don't have much choice.
It does work on the whole but it is not the most reliable one out there. It quite offten loses the will to live and will stop connecting to my laptop via wireless and the only way to sort it is to get the non UK call centre to sort it out.
On ...
