I have had a rover 214 SEI and let me keep this very simple. the look of the car and the feel of the car is great. It was my first car and I look after it like it was family. I serviced it every 6000 miles and kept the service history up to date. But no one told the most common problem with EVERY Rover. HEAD Gasket problems and water pump failure.
No matter how much I kept the water topped up and regular checks on the radiator,water pump. The Head gasket still went. not once but twice. plus when the second time it went, the water pump radiator and head gasket all went at once.Why did Rover make such a poor job of this?
I have now scrapped the car because to fix all these at the same time was more than what the car was worth.My advise to you is be careful when buying a rover because it is a common fault from the rover 100 series up to the 75 model.
The tell tale signs for faulty head gasket is you look for a white layer/lumpy substance on the water surface in the coolant tank. Or when you unscrew the oil filler cap and the is the same white substance in there.
