Rover 25 Advantage

Advantages: Goo dhandling, responsive power steering & easy to park
Disadvantages: Immobiliser/alarm issues & wider than average doors on the 3 door model

I replaced my aging 1995 Rover 214SEi in November with a new Rover 25 Advantage model. This is basically the standard 1.4i model with metallic paint, alloy wheels and 3 years or 45,000 miles servicing thrown in.

The free servicing works on a voucher basis so you get sent a booklet of vouchers from Rover directly rather than the dealership where you buy the car. There are 3 vouchers for 3 x 15,000 mile services over a 3 year period ...
...tyres, brake pads & wiper blades.

The fuel economy is excellent and the tank holds a healthy 50 odd litres so you get well over 300 miles between filling up.

I have found the handling and responsiveness much improved over the older style 200 series but there are a few niggly little things that have taken a bit of time to get used to.

The combination of an infra red remote control for the engine immobiliser ... more

its a rover 45 and thats about it really

Advantages: abs brakes
Disadvantages: lots of things

...however, my dad has a Rover 45 1.4 and as his car is for general use (being as he is a ‘dad’), I consider myself to have as much intimate knowledge of this car as my own (coz mine also tends to go into the garage or near the bottom of the driveway (whereas his is at the top and therefore easier to get out!!)). Now dad had a Honda Civic 1.4 SE previous to this which, to those who know your cars, is basically the same thing only a Honda. ...
...will grant you, just as nicely average looking a car as the Civic. It has power steering, air conditioning, CD player, ABS and the other usual mod cons you get with most cards nowadays unless you’re getting some bottom of the range heap. The seating position is good and there is plenty of room in the back for 3 adults and a big boot so plenty of room for the golf clubs. It has a number of pros and cons - Big pro is its ABS braking system which, ...

Relaible and cheap to buy, but expensive to fix!

Advantages: A lot of space for the money and a nice looking respectable car.
Disadvantages: Parts are now hard to find, I will sell my car soon as a result.

Good car! I've had no problems yet, but future is bleak! Acceleration is good enough to keep you amused without being too much for a new driver. It will happily get to motorway speed without feeling slow. Road handling and grip are good. Brakes tend to be on or off and clutch is very heavy. Seats are comfortable and the driving position is natural. Interior design is simple but pleasing to the eye. Mine came with faux wood panelling, which is always ...
...are a nice grey contrast. Rear passenger space is sufficient; however with 2 people in the front it would be hard to have tall people in the back comfortably. Boot is expansive and when the seats are down it feels like a van! Parts are becoming hard to find, a recent dent to the door left me searching through breakers yards! I get average 8milesper Litre ...

Made in England

Advantages: Made in England, Reliable, Looks Good,
Disadvantages: Rover was own for 5 years by BMW, who tried to put it out of business

Rover a marque which still stands for quality and reliability. I recently purchased by third Rover, a Rover 45. A car which believe it or not turns heads (especially when it is shiny and clean). The build is very good, the specification matches any luxury car and it is extremely comfortable. Of three Rovers I have owned, all have been very reliable, never (apart from one flat battery) has the cars failed to start. I still own my second Rover, a Rover ...
...Metro I had. The Rover 100 was bought front new and has done 55,000 miles, and all that has been replaced is two front tyres, a rear exhaust box and one front headlamp. Everthing else is a sond as the day it was delivered to me by the dealer. Rover unfortunately at the moment is not a trendy marque, everyone wants (why, I do not know) to drive BMW's and VW's, expensive, bland, overated, and just as reliable as a Rover. One final thing which the ...

So very British

Advantages: classy
Disadvantages: dated, 25 more appealing

Rover continue to produce cars made in the UK and like the Almera I reveiwed recently this is another example of a family car being extensively revised. The revisions here extend to a new name (45 nee 400) and a number of stlying and mechanical revisions that I was hard pressed to identify. The 45 tries to differs from others in this class in terms of image - this is no family holdall, it's a mini limo. Well it tries hard anyway - the wood effect ...
...use of chrome is effective. The interior is dark and somewhat limited in space compared to more youthful rivals. the dash is inoffensive and clear though the stereo is fiddly to use with fussy controls that are too small to be used safely on the move. The 45 should appeal to the older motorist who doesn't need the room offered by a Focus or new Civic - however if room isn't important save another grand and buy the better looking 25 - the 45's smaller ...

It's my dads car.... honest......

Advantages: Nice colour, good safety features
Disadvantages: Not suitable for drivers taller than 6' 4"

The first problem I had was getting into the drivers seat, I had to get them to lower the seat before I could get in, and even with the seat as far back and down as possible, I still had to adjust the back to an angle just short of uncomfortable to enable me to sit in the thing. My head still touches the roof… Now... What toys have we? There is an electric tilt and slide roof, remote central locking, and a radio cassette player. Thats it. Ok, it ...
...stereo is fiddly (small controls) and the removable face plate is flimsy, storage is not great, with a small glove box and not many cubby holes to store things (no coin or pen holders) The lack of air con is a big problem, so much so I refuse to travel in it on a hot day. That may sound "picky" but when you are used to it, and suffer from hay fever like I do, it's a major problem! As ever when I pointed this out, my parents just went "oh.. never ...

itself was a 1997 built car and although Rover has revamped the body it is basically the same car as the present Rover 45 with the 1.4 engine so for the benefit of this review I shall endeavour to compare the two cars. The Astra comes new with a starting price of £11980 for the base LS model. There are a multitude of different options that can be added such as different radios, a sunroof and alternative paint options to name but three that will increase the purchase price of the vehicle. Mine is in a metallic paint called Star silver and this would have added £275 to the bill when new. For mine a 2002-registered car on a 51 plate I paid £7995. The car being 8 months old and having covered 14000 miles, in other words a typical ex fleet car. The Rover was also a similar mileage when I purchased it and today I would expect to pay a similar ...
