Rover 220 Turbo tomcat
Advantages: Speed, Looks, Handling Disadvantages: Fuel Consumption, Torque Steer
Owned a 96 220 Turbo now for about 6 months and got to say it is a fantastic car. I have had no problems with my current car at all (Probably due to being serviced every 2000 mile). If you take care of this car it will give you brilliant fun motoring. The current car has had uprated brakes which I'm told is a must and they are very sharp and responsive. The acceleration is brutal and have to be very careful to try and stop the car wheel spinning ... ...torque steer. Once it get going though is very good. My current car puts out about 230bhp due to a few small modifications. The cars interior is fairly basic but its a 1996 car! The car is a real eye-catcher and looks and sounds how it goes! Fuel consumption is a worry (Normal driving will get 25mpg, if having some fun will drop to 15mpg). This isn't helped by the fuel tank been the size of a zippo lighter. All round though a very good car for the ...

A fantastic car and pleasure to own and drive such a rare piece!
Advantages: Stunning looks, rare to see, fantastic spec, good handling, cheap to buy and maintain Disadvantages: A few niggly faults, the 1.6 k series engine isn't much different to the 1.4
...shared my experience with my Rover Coupe.
My first car was a 1998 Rover 214Si which I bought and drove for just over a year. I was always on the look out for another car and definitely wanted to stick with Rover as my 214 had been nothing but extremely reliable and great fun to own and drive.
I was looking through the Autotrader like I do every week and came across a few Rover 200 Coupes. Wow was the first word that came into my head when I seen ... ...roads and didn't even know Rover made a Coupe.
On this particular week there were only 2 to choose from...a 1998 Tahiti Blue 216 Coupe Auto with 87,000 miles or a 1998 British Racing Green 216 Coupe Manual with 80,000 miles. At this time I was leaning more towards the blue one as my 214 was the same shade and it’s just a fantastic colour. I was put off though by the Auto box. However I thought more on the green one and thought that maybe a change ...

rover 620ti
Advantages: great performance for next to nothing Disadvantages: parts hard to find window problems
...imagined i would own a rover always thought they were for the more mature driver.
If you want speed looks performace and great handeling for around £1k this is the car for you.
Bought mine modified (dump valve, full kit, spoiler, dtm split rims, sound system, ect) but do know aftermarket parts are very hard to find and if you love your 620 you will spend hours on the web looking for bits but hey the money i have spent on extras i have saved on ... ...with the same spec as bmws mercs of similar age at a fraction of the price.
200bhp as standard can be increased with ease mine is currently 250bhp + and does quarter mile in 12 seconds.
with all that power you would expect it to drink fuel but from experience it does.
city driving 25mpg
motorway 35 - 40 mpg.
handeling is superb mine is lowered and i would reccomend you do this and i have 18" alloys with low profile tyres and have experienced ...

Last of the big V8's
Advantages: powerfull, parts easily available Disadvantages: poor reliability and fuel consumption
I had a V8 Rover SD1 years ago whilst at college. Bought very second hand this was the biggest mistake I've ever made in a car. From the outset it was very unreliable, every time I took it out something seemed to go wrong with it. Fuel consumption averaged about 18mpg and boy did it rust well. These cars were launched in 1976/77 as an executive car, powerful and well specified they looked like a real match for the BMW 5 series. However reliability ... ...as so many other Austin Rover models, mediocre quality and poor brand image led to falling sales and very low resale values. This led to the downfall of this car. It was hardly fit to cary the Rover badge that had graced it's predesessors the P6 and 3500TC, these were quality executive cars that had a good reputation. ...

Rover 216 Coupe -94
Advantages: Reliable, Sublime handling Disadvantages: Minor Quality Niggles
...fortunate amongst the somewhat staid Rover 200 line as it is a handsome car that wears its years well. At the end of the day though, it is still a Rover whos design is over 15 years old, so if image is important to you, it might not be the car for you.
PERFORMANCE
As I mentioned, this is the Honda 1.6 version of the car with the single cam engine, however I also own a twin cam K series 200 (the newer shape) and the performance is practically identical ... ...It gets up to 60 from rest in around 9.3 seconds and on to a top speed of just over 120mph. It does generally feel nippy however, and has more than enough pull higher up the rev range. It IS a revvy engine though, and can feel a little lacklustre low down. The brakes are never less than superb, and an average £35 fill up will do 300 miles of rush hour commuting into town.
HANDLING & RIDE
The handling on these cars is absolutely superb, its not ...
