The Rover Has Landed

Advantages Interior, boot space, seats, fuel, dash, navigator, handling on straights
Disadvantages poor handling around town, clunky gears, expensive
The Rover 75v6 SE is a very classy car, perhaps one of the best cars Rover (or whatever they're called these days) has ever produced.
The styling is very much in league with the Jaguar S-type but doesn't quite beat it for quality either in the interior design or the build of the motor. However, the car does shout "come and get me, I won't break down...honest!" quite loudly. Opening the driver's door for the first time you can instantly smell the genuine aroma of wood rather than the horrid odour of a wood polish daubed on the plastic fascia.
The seat is fully adjustable of course and is very very comfortable even for my rather thin but leggy 6ft frame. The steering wheel is also very comfortable and PS makes turning even the tightest of arcs a doddle. The styling of the dashboard, panelling, side pockets etc just oozes quality, rather than cheap tackiness found on previous Rovers. Even the back seats have a good bit of leg space for my rather critical boyfriend.
however, all this style means nothing if the engine doesn't live up to the same kind of aethetic qualities. It is true to say that even a 2 litre such as this seems a little panicky around close-nit streets, corners, bends & street furniture. The handling is a tad heavy and the clutch even heavier around town. This beasty simply cannot breath in such a confined area.
However, no such claustrophobia can be reported once we reach the A roads and motorways. The engine simply opens its lungs and consumes all before it without even a cough or a splutter. It is clearly a car designed for high revving on the straights rather than all the piddling about in low gears pottering around town. So only really buy this 30k car if you spend a lot of your time on the big roads rather than the school runs.
Rover have finally got it right at last...almost! The Rover 25 & 75 series are clearly their best ever and will hopefully lead to bigger and better things, especially if they can tweak the handling a bit.I can say without too much contradiction that the 75 is a class car on the big roads; it also gets noticed by passers-by but this time they will be stunned & awed by the quality and the styling rather than bursting out into laughter as they realise its NOT just another old Rover!
Test Drive one now, you'll be in for a big surprise
