I recently needed to sell my R Reg Rover 216 Cabriolet and buy a more practical, cheaper, but still reliable, "family" car. I decided to take it back to the dealer where I first purchased the car to see if they would buy it back and for how much.
SMC at Bath Road, Slough were very helpful considering I told them that my next car was not necessarily going to be a Rover and that I needed at least £1000 in my pocket after selling the Cabriolet and purchasing the next car.
They checked over my 4 year old Cabriolet and considered it to be a "good news" car, ie good condition, full service history, definately resellable. I was offered £5000 for the Cabriolet (a fair price I thought) and part exchange with cash back should they find a suitable "family" car for me.
My criteria for the next car was specific; price approximately £3-4000, 5 door - large boot needed for double buggy and baby equipment, reliable and full service history preferred.
As the Slough branch deal mostly in the more expensive range of Rovers such as MG's,I was referred to SMC Iver Heath, which is only a few miles away from Slough, as they had more in the way of "family" cars and could cater more to my price range.
Initially I did receive a couple of calls from the Iver Heath Sales man trying to sell me whatever he had in stock rather than what my criteria indicated.
However, he soon understood my needs and within 3 days of initial contact with Rover, I was test driving what was to be my next car. The 5 door, Rover 414SI looked good - platinum silver which apparently is a sought after colour, drove well - P registration, one lady owner from new, 1 year's MOT, full service history and was the right price - £3995.
Purchasing the car from Rover meant I was automatically entitled to a 3 month Warranty. However, before collecting the car, I was telephoned with a superb offer of 1 year's warranty for £100 which I snatched up!
All in all I feel that Rover listened to my request and found a workable solution in a timely manner. I would recommend SMC Slough and Iver Heath to anyone interested in buying Rovers. And would advise that if you tell them exactly what you want and work with them, I am sure they will do the best they can to accommodate you.

I thought this was quite intersting. I am thinking of selling my near enough new Vauxhall Corsa SRi very soon. I have 4 cars and I cant afford to keep them all. Rover seem o.k, but I dont think I'll ever be dealing with them! Chunka! X
