Lyles Golden Syrup

Advantages: A versatile syrup
Disadvantages: none

For as long as I can remember the Lyle's Golden Syrup tin has always looked the same and when I took time to research the history of the packaging I found that the tin had hardly changed since 1885. The Victorian style packaging has gained cult status in the design and packaging world. When everyone had to make sacrifices for the World War I effort the syrup was packaged in thick cardboard containers in order to save using precious metal. In 1911 Lyle`s syrup was awarded a Royal Warrant which has sat in a prominent position on the tin ever since. Lyle's registered their trademark of the `Lion and the Bee`s` in 1904. I love Lyles Golden Syrup, may would automatically say how bad it is for you, but eaten in moderation its fine. A balanced diet includes eating a huge variety of food so that our bodies get all of the nutrients ...

Review of Lyle's Golden Syrup

Maple and Pecan ...Mmmmm

Advantages: Tastes good, sweet!
Disadvantages: Very high in sugar. Not suitable for nut allergies.

Breakfast cereal in our house is a big buy. We buy loads, from healthy things like bran flakes and weetabix to not so healthy such as weetabix mini's and chocolate flakes. But without fail, one of my favourites is definitly pecan and maple. Now we usually buy this from tesco, but at the moment, the two boxes in our cereal cupboard are from Sainsburys. I dont actually remember why we went to sainsburys as its the furthest away from our home, but we did and im glad we did. The cereal cost around £1.50 from Sainsburys, though im sure other homebrands would be cheaper. The box contains 500g. APPEARENCE- The box is nothing special to be honest. There is a picture of a full bowl of pecan and maple crisp cereal and down below it says SAINSBURYS PECAN AND MAPLE CRISP. The picture does actually look quite appetizing, although it doesn ...

Review of Sainsbury's Maple and Pecan Crisp Cereal

Consistency of cardboard (with a hint of syrup)

Advantages: low in calories and fat
Disadvantages: tastes bland and artificial

the Cereal aisle and are available in a 132g box of 6 bars. Each 22g cereal bar is individually wrapped and contains rice, wheat and maple syrup. A box will cost you £1.29. Each cereal bar contains 75 calories, 4.2g of sugar, 0.6g of fat, 0.2g of saturates and 0.1g of salt. As a quick snack the cereal bars fill a gap and are low in fat and calories. If you happen to be following a Weight Watchers diet each bar is 1 point towards your daily total. The picture on the box of the bars is appetising, however in reality they are not much to look at, just a cluster of rice and wheat with a golden brown colour. You would expect the bars to be quite sticky and moist, especially as they contain syrup (like most cereal bars), but they are quite dry and stiff. Eating one of these bars is enough to give you jaw ache. They are very chewy, but not ...
