Toast Titanium 7 is the premier CD and DVD burning application on Mac OSX. It's easy to see why.

The standard interface layout, shows only a few options for which type of disc to create: "mac only", "mac and pc" and a couple of others, for use with: "data", "music" or "video" CDs or DVDs. In preferences, the user can choose a more detailed interface which allows you to create many more types of disc. Crucially, "hybrid" discs, where half the disc is for Windows and half for OSX, so depending on which machine you place it, only files relevant to each OS will show up.
The application also allows you to make backups to ".toast" files or the OSX standard compressed disk image, ".dmg" This is particularly handy for creating web-distributable installers or packages where size is a consideration.
I've used many CD and DVD authoring applications on both PC and Mac, like Nero, EasyCD, etc. I've always found that they're either aimed at experienced users or completely inexperienced users. Whilst Nero tried to cater for both by bundling "Nero Burning ROM" and "Nero Express" in it's premium package, the former for professionals and the latter for new users, I didn't like the idea of separate programs. It somehow made the whole experience disjointed and annoying.
Toast, on the other hand, has managed to strike a balance between the two by offering a fresh, clean interface, which can be complicated to the users taste. It's also a very small program and loads instantly. All the functions are located inside this one application which I personally prefer over Nero's modular design.
Being a PC and Mac user, it's frustrating for me to not be able to use Toast on my PC. After using Nero for years I've become a Toast convert after only a few months using it. However, a slight downside at most.
If you're looking for an all-in-one solution for CD/DVD burning and backups, this is certainly it!
A thoroughy well developed product in it's 7th major revision. Recommended to all Mac OSX users!

A very good Disc burning program is vital in these days of limitless content and limited space. What's more, a versatile, lightweight program that can burn at fast speeds without turning DVDs or CDs into a coaster is important, especially one that can burn discs that can be read cross platform.
Well Toast is just that. It loads up quickly. Its interface is simple and intuitive (you can drag and drop items onto the program and it creates a new disc, ... ...and drop folders, files and whatnot into them, and you can name each disc.) You can select what type of disc you even want to burn (including discs that will be read by Mac or PC, discs that have different sections that can be read by a Mac, and other sections which can be read by PCs.) Video, audio, DATA discs, you name it, they're all a simple click away.
When it comes to burning speeds, Toast relies heavily on the RAM your machine has. With 4GB ...
