It's been a while since I have worn perfume on a regular basis, I've had a few mishaps with bottles of my old favourite (Hugo Woman) and decided that it was too much hassle and money to replace them after they leaked/broke the sprayer, etc. But when I was in TK Maxx buying a last-minute present on Christmas Eve, I spotted a bottle of this and thought I'd give it a try. It as only £6.99 and as I have a lot of Roxy clothes and like their outdoorsy, free spirited image, thought maybe it would be a scent that I would appreciate too.
The purfume comes in a frosted glass bottle, which appears very pale blue but that is in fact the colour of the perfume, with a shiny silver lid. Fairly plain compared with some of the beautiful bottles out there, but it definitely wont look ugly on your dressing table. I have the 30ml size, there is also a 100ml and and a body lotion. The size I have will be perfect for travel and should (I hope) be pretty strong and not cause a fragrant mess in transit!
I find scents incredibly hard to describe, but this is very fresh and light. It definitely fits with the Roxy image and reminds me of the ocean. I am not sure the name Love really suits it, to me that would conjure up a more floral scent, perhaps with rose notes.
In fact Love has top notes of tea leaves, lime, yuzu and tangerine, with heart notes of peony, pomegranate, freesia and orchid. I'll admit I wasn't totally sure what "notes" are, so looked it up and it top notes are what you first notice, but evaporate quickly, with heart notes lasting longer and being noticed later. That is probably a horrible description of it but perfumery is confusing to say the least.
I can't say I really notice any of the individual notes, but the overall scent is invigorating and sassy rather than being overly girly. That isn't to say it smells manly, because I hate when products smell masculine - a lot of Lush products I won't go anywhere near for this reason.
I'll admit when I first got the spray I was worried the scent would be too strong for me to live with, the first spray is pretty powerful, but it settles down incredibly quickly and, if I'm honest, doesn't last as long as I would like. It seems to linger on fabrics, my PJs always smell lovely, but by the middle of the day I don't notice it at all on my skin.
That said, I love this scent and it's so cheap I don't mind topping up a little more often, I'm considering buying a larger bottle so I can pop the little one in my bag to freshen up throughout the day.
I just found out that you can actually buy this even cheaper than I did. The 30ml bottle can be picked up for only £4.49 at directcosmetics.com, with 100ml for £13.49. The RRP for the 30ml bottle (which is really quite small) is £16, so bear that in mind if you're put off by really cheap perfumes!
Obviously, perfumes are such a matter of opinion, if it smells nice and is cheap, then it's a good deal. If it doesn't, it doesn't really matter how much you paid because you're not going to use it. I'm not sure how easy this is to track down in stores and try first, so if you do decide to buy some it might be a bit of a blind purchase, but not going to cost too much if it's a miss!
