I had been using the telephone banking service offered by the Royal Bank Scotland (RBS) for a number of years, when they launched their PC Banking. Being relatively new to the internet I was weary of signing up, although knowing how easy the telephone banking service was I decided to give it a try.
The PC banking registration was fairly simple and the security steps in place are reassuring. The additional bonus of this service is that you can use the facility on one or more machines but each with a different registration code. I found this very useful as I can use the service in two places with the confidence of total security at each.
Once I started regularly using the service I realised there were a few areas that could be improved and over the past year they have and the options available have made PC banking as easy and flexible as walking into the bank itself.
The package is quite comprehensive now, offering the ability to set up standing orders, direct payments within your own accounts and to other peoples accounts and you can also view all your Direct Debits and standing orders. The main screen shows all of your accounts and you can choose to look at the most frequent transactions in each of them. This is particularly useful when if, like me, you have a variety of accounts that are used regularly.
I couldn't manage without this type of service, I never have the chance to visit my bank and even though the telephone service was very good it didn't allow you to view your accounts in this way, which allows you to do so much more.
I have only had one problem with this service, which occurred when RBS had a security error, which meant I had to re-register with the service. This was a pain, as I had to wait for new codes to be sent out and re-register on both machines again. Also, whilst waiting for the new codes I didn't have access to the telephone service. This was because your personal security details are just that, personal, even RBS do not know your details, so there is no way for them to access your account until you register your details again. I suppose even though this caused a problem to me, it does emphasise how good the security systems in place are.
All in all a great service I could not live without.
Advantages: Account not seperate from main bank, easy to use, technicial support Disadvantages: No perferential rates, does not yet support Internet Exp. 5.5
The Royal Bank of Scotland do not to my knowledge operate an internet account as such. The main advantage of this is that by operating an account with them via the internet, you also gain all the advantages of being able to use local branches and other services. This is in marked contrast to accounts such as the Co-op's Smile accounts which have had to make seperate arrangements. The draw back in that they do not offer preferential rates etc for ... ...I would recommend the Royal Bank of Scotland's current account (with internet access) to anyone with internet access (it is also a free telephone account should you need this service) as a satisfied customer with an account for several years and internet access for almost 12 months. In addition it is worth noting that this bank does not, and has stated that it does not intend to, charge for the use of cash point facilities (including the so called ...

Review of Royal Bank of Scotland Online
Advantages: Good Service and Secure Disadvantages: Sometimes Slow
...been a customer of the Royal Bank of Scotland for a number of years. Although I have been into a few branches where the service has not been all that good I do rate them as offering excellent accounts, choice, good rates and good returns. Since the introduction of the Direct Banking through the internet, by banking life has been changed all together. I enjoy using the service and now it is digital it could not be better. Although sometimes slow I ... ...me from trawlling into the branch, which is very good. There has been some question as to how safe nd secure your money is when carrying out transactions online, but I have never had a problem, touch wood, and I use the service every day.
It is exceptionally easy to use, with access to both statements, mini statements, facilities to setup new bill payments, ammend details, print items, trce items, activate cards, transfer money, ammend direct debit ...

Advantages: Great for online banking Disadvantages: Staff in branch are quite unhelpful & a bit pushy
I have been a customer with RBS for about 7 years now. And there are both advantages and disadvantages with banking with RBS.
ADVANTAGES:
TheIr online banking is great and easy to use. Very handy for busy people who want to pay bills etc outside of normal banking hours. You can view statements up to 6months prior to todays date, and download them into Word or Excel docs if you wish. You cal also search for tranascation by type ie cheque, ddm etc
... ...paying in book this canalso be done online
There is also the option of using the telephone banking system they offer, and the staff on that line have alweays been really helpful with any queries etc and they are there for you to speak to 24/7
DISADVANTAGES:
The disdadvantage of this bank is the branches. Firstly, there are not that many branches about - although you can use NatWest to pay money/cheques into your account. The staff in the branches ...

...therefore decided to use the Royal Bank of Scotland's internet banking facility. However, I found the service very difficult to start up, I had to phone the RBS three times in order to ask them to move things along so I could open the account up. When the finally provided the information, numbers, etc. I then had to go to a site to download the components I required to start using the internet banking facility. I did this, but nothing happened. After ... ...RBS in which they asked me to change various settings on my computer I still couldn't use the internet banking. During all this I found I started having difficulty in accessing secure sites. RBS informed me this was due to my ISP not allowing me access to these sites and I would need to contact them. I advised RBS that I had no difficulty accessing any secure sites whatsoever prior to attempting to use their internet banking and, eventually, after ...

Solo is a debit card available to under 18's. It is superb as it allows under 18's to purchase goods over the phone, on the internet and in shops without having to steal their parents credit card. Being a debit card it is impossible to build up a debt.
Here are some ideas of how to make the most of your solo card -
1) use it in shops
2) get one to claim a free gift - try natwest or royalbank or scotland
3) use it to gamble online - the betting websites do not check your age and you can win easy money using my fool proof steps - see my opinion on gambling.
4) pose with it - go into a shop and say - put it on my plastic! ...

Advantages: On-line Banking Disadvantages: Found none yet
I have been with the RoyalBank of Scotland 10years and find them excellent. I have the Telephone banking option and now I can even use their services on-line, this means that I can set up or cancel direct debits and standing orders just by logging on, no more hanging on the phone line or standing in a que to sort out all you banking needs.
I am also a Royalties member of the bank, which entitles me to change money to other currencies free of charge, also they do not charge you for changing it back. With Royalties you also get upto 20% off all holidays booked through their Travel Agency which is all done on the telephone, but you can pick holidays from most of the major travel books and them just phone and give them the details. The advantages are amazing and I would not swap to another bank for anything. ...
Advantages: Range of products, staff can be helpful Disadvantages: lack of communication
have just applied again though and am waiting for the forms, wondering which signature to use.
Credit Cards
These are typical high-street bank credit cards with a 0% interest charge for six months, including balance transfers, and airmiles being offered. I am now on my second, having closed the first after six months. Here's a helpful tip for reducing credit card debt. Always go for the zero percent rate and swop when it expires.
It was easy to activate the card. I just rang a number and pressed the right buttons. I was quite impressed with my initial credit limit too.
I missed a payment once and got a snotty phone-call from their Receivables section. As someone who used to work as a tax collector I didn't appreciate their unwillingness to listen to my, genuine, excuses.
