With this service you also check online, the status of your parcel/item and where it currently is. You can use recorded delivery First or Second class, and if you sue first class most items will get to the destination the following day. Recorded signed for delivery includes the following things:
* Proof of Posting - Should you need to make a claim for lost items or prove to the recipient that the item was posted.
Signature on delivery - To prove that your item got to the destination safely.
Online confirmation of delivery - This is great to check where your parcel is and to see if it has been delivered or not.

***PRICES*** Prices vary according to weights, obviously the heavier items are more expensive and it’s cheaper to send items by 2nd class service. How-ever if your parcel/package is over a certain weight you may have to send this item 1st class instead. If you are sending letters prices can range from £1.14 to £2.03. If letters weight more than 750g this is then classed as a packet. Packet prices start from £1.67 and can go up to £8.94, sending via first-class. If items are over 100g, you have no other option but to send the packet 1st class.
***HOW DO I SEND MY ITEMS RECORDED SIGNED FOr?*** When in the post office state to the cashier how you would like to send your parcel and they will do everything for you. I how-ever send a lot of parcels so one of the cahiers gave me a roll of recorded delivery slips, and I stick a barcode on each of the parcels before I go to the post office which saves a lot of time when I’m there. The cashier will scan the barcode and this will be inputted into the computer system. All recorded signed for items all have a different bar-code which is your tracking number. This will be printed on the bottom of your receipt, so make sure you keep this in a safe place just in case you need to track a parcel or raise a query about it. If you send a lot of item like I do, it may be work asking at your local post office for a pack or roll of recorded signed for labels, this way you can label up the parcels yourself.
***MY EXPERIENCE ON SENDING RECORDED SIGNED FOR PACKAGES*** I sell a lot of items on eBay and take regular weekly trips to my local post office. I send all my items recorded delivery so I know the item reaches its destination safely. I have had a few occasions when my items have been delayed, through carelessness. One particular occasion I had sent something 2nd Class Recorded Signed for, this item was a packet. A few days (approx 4-5days) later the recipient explained to me he had not received the item. I went onto the post office website (www.postoffice.co.uk), to check the status of my packet but it said they couldn’t track this item yet, so it for another few days.
After 1 week I decided to try to track this parcel again as the recipient had still not received it. I used my tracking number online and entered the date the item was posted but it said the same thing again, that my parcel couldn’t be tracked, until it had been delivered. I decided to ring the post office main number to see if they could help me out. After spending about 5mins going through different selections to speak to someone regarding this, he said that it sounded like my parcel may have got lost but to check again in a few days. Reluctantly I accepted this and decided to wait a few more days.
It had now been 10 days since I posted my parcel and the post office website still couldn’t track my parcel using the tracking number. I rung up the post office again and the man on the phone advised me that my parcel had been sitting on a shelf in the post office waiting to go, but someone must have forgotten to put it in a bag to be delivered/sorted out. He advised me that my parcel was now on its way to its destination. Surely enough after 2 weeks of posting my parcel, it finally arrived at its destination!
***MY EXPERIENCE ON RECEIVING RECORDED SIGNED FOR ITEMS*** My local post-man is very good and reliable and I have to say that when-ever we get a parcel that needs signing for; he always rings the doorbell to make sure someone can sign for it. If no-one is here, he will ring the neighbour’s door to see if they can sign for it and take it in until someone gets home.
***OVERALL OPINION*** I have only listed one problem of mine in this review, but have also had another problem where an item got lost. The post Office claim that this is a reliable service and your letter or package will reach its destination on time but in my opinion this is very rarely the case. It may just be me having a few cases of bad luck and you may have not experienced the same problems that I have had. Although I have had problems with this service I do continue to use it, as I feel it’s the only other reliable way to send important letters and packets.

Review of Royal Mail Recorded Signed For 1st / 2nd Class
Advantages: None Disadvantages: No tracking. Insurance is no more than standard post.
...a service offered by the Royal Mail. You pay an extra 72p (as of Feb 2008) for your letter or parcel to be signed for at the other end. == Actual Service == What you actually get is exactly what they state. You get a signature from the recipient when the item is delivered. It could be argued that you would imagine that the item would be tracked all the way to the other end. This, you do not get. You would need to pay for Special Delivery or use a ... ...throw the parcel in with the ordinary First Class and Second Class post. == Delivery of Item == When the item is delivered, a signature is requested. This, however can even be from a neighbour or even from the receiver picking the item up from the Post Office. This is probably the biggest advantage. You can collect the item from the Post Office which is not possible with couriers. At the moment, there are plenty of Post Offices. == Problems == There ...

Advantages: Low Price, Proof of Delivery Disadvantages: Standard Post, just gets signed for
...by pointing out exactly what Royal Mail Recorded Delivery 1st/2nd class is. It is NOT a tracked parcel service where items are tracked throughout. It is a standard postal service, and items sent using it just go in with the normal post. They are just as likely to get lost and normal items and are only insured up to £32, the same as normal letters and parcels. The only difference is that for the extra 68p you get proof of delivery, which may be useful ... ...a tracked service. The official Royal Mail words are (which are on all Recorded Delivery slips) ¨Standard Postal Service with Signature on Delivery¨.
That aside, I have found this service to almost always deliver very quickly, often next day when posting First Class. I have never had problems getting proof of delivery online, and for only an extra 68p on top of normal parcel prices, this service is value for money. I wouldn't recommend it for high ...

Advantages: reasonably price, secure postal service Disadvantages: found non as yet
Royal Mail recorded delivery.
This has been one of my favourite ways of sending relatively important mail through the post for quite some time now.
I do a lot of buying and selling on online internet auctions, and find this way of sending mail one of the most secure and reasonably priced ways of doing so.
For what I would deem as normal mail the cost of first class is about £0.70, second class is available but unless you are sending an horrendous ... ...now be tracked online through Royal Mail tracking service, which is really simple to use, and brings you peace of mind, it is also a good proof of postage if somebody questions has to whether you have sent their mail.
An easy to use service, which can be done at any Post Office, they will fill in all the postal details for you, and give you the postal proof as well as a receipt.
Again this service is also possible online from the royal Mail Postal ...
