    What a strange concept for a review - the Royal Marines. Still, I'm sure I can manage it. As a background, I didn't actually start as a Royal Marine. I joined the Army at 21 and commissioned through the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in to a line infantry regiment. I never truly fitted in though and spent 4 years in limbo and wondering what life would bring next. In 2005, I went to work with Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines in Faslane, Scotland.     Advantages Advantages Great fun, loads of traveling and constantly surrounded with the best friends imaginable

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Mud runs, NBC drills and being wet more often than not

    The Royal Marines is a fantastic organisation to become a part of. It's a family, a brotherhood even. I only spent a few years in the Corps but not out of choice, I had signed up for twenty two years and I knew that it was the best decision I'd ever made. I visibly remember pulling up at Commando Halt train station on the River Exe for the second time after passing the Potential Recruits Course a few weeks earlier to be met by a burly Corporal, immaculately turned out with a pace stick under his arm.     For some years now i have been setting my sites on becoming a royal marine and as soon as i get some qualifications and have travelled a bit more i am soon to be a royal marine. I have had alot of criticism regarding my choice of career however as people still see it like the misfits and numskull society that are unable to find a proper job. This opinion has been expressed to me by close friends and family members but i have been assured by a recruiting officer in my area that this is normal for anyone close,particularly mothers to become against the idea of their little boy going off into ... more
