We have had our Car, House and Contents insurance with Royal and Sun Alliance for some years now (originally with The Insurance Service). During this time all the paperwork has always been correct and arrived on time and the staff have always been very polite and helpful when we have spoke to any of them on the telephone.
The real test for any insurance company is when a claim is made. We were recently unfortunate enough to have our youngest son’s BMX bike stolen from our garden shed in the early hours of a Tuesday morning. Later in the morning I informed both the Police and the insurance company by telephone. The claim was registered and as the bike was only a few months old we still had the receipt which we sent to the insurance company by first class post. On the Wednesday we telephoned the insurance company with the Police crime reference number and were told that the Halfords Insurance Replacement Service, who would supply a replacement bike, would handle the claim.When I arrived home on the Thursday evening there was a message from Halfords and I rang them to discuss the claim. I was informed that a voucher would be sent to me for the replacement value of the bike, minus my £50 excess. The voucher arrived in the post on Monday morning and we can now go to our local Halfords store and choose a new bike.
We were every impressed by the speed and efficiency in which this claim was handled by the insurance company. We all know how keen insurance companies are to take our money and it is very reassuring when a claim is handled so well.Needless to say we took the Police advice and now the lock on the garden shed has been replaced with a bigger and better lock, we have fixed a permanent chain in the shed to fasten the bike to and we have put an extra lock on the garden gate. We know this will not stop the determined thief, but it has made up feel a bit better. Also knowing that we have chosen a good insurance company has helped a lot.

It is very heartening to hear how Royal Sun Alliance dealt with your claim. However i would not be too hopefull, if you ever have a serious loss. We have recently had our worst experience in almost twenty years of insuring property, with Royal Sun Alliance. they were at best incompetent and nearly cost us the property due to their refusal to settle the monies they owed and making us wait nearly a year after the claim was made before complying with their obligations. Perhaps if we had not finaly threatened action they would not have found their internal error that suddenly and mysteriously came to the surface nearly a year later. Please do not recommend this company to others as all you are doing is hurting people.
