Royksopp

It was a couple of years ago that I went to see Basement Jaxx playing live in Cardiff. We got there nice and early, began to lubricate the throats with a few beverages, and settled in for the normally arduous wait for the Jaxx to begin.

You know what it's like - you go to see one of your favourite music makers, and end up standing round bored for 40 minutes as some second-rate support band try to liven up the audience, but normally only result in multiple headaches.

So on come these guys and they begin to unleash their music. 30 seconds later, I was hooked. I'd never heard any of their tunes before, but was instantly attracted to their funk.

You may also think that you've never heard any of their tunes, but trust me, you have. Like many of their ilk, they've had their songs used for a multitude of tv ads, but don't let that put you off. Royksopp are an awesome group and their music can be listened to time and time again

And it's not like you can really classify them - funk, dance, electronica, even acid jazz....nothing quite fits. You could easily close your eyes and float away to one song, whilst to the next it would be hands in the air and raving away

Their album (the only one so far, unfortunately) is a modern marvel. "Melody AM" it's called, and I thoroughly recommend shelling out some of your hard-earned to buy a copy (or download it if that's your thing)

It's the sort of album that you'll put on once and think: "How long have these guys been around? Why on earth have I never heard of them before?"

I've now seem them 3 or 4 times at gigs and festivals, and they're equally good live, if not better. If you see their name in a dance tent this summer, check them out
