I first saw a Rubiks cube when I was 10 and my dad could solve it. I asked him to show me how he had done it, but as you can probably guess it didn't make too much sense. I'd kind of forgotten about it, but I saw one in a Toystore and thought why not. The great thing about this particular cube is that it comes with instructions on how to solve it, so a particuarly determined individual will solve it in the end. It does require a large amount of determination however. I have managed to figure it out and can now solve the cube in just under 2 minutes, with a little guidance from the internet too. But even after you have solved it there are hours of fun to be had with it.
You can make various patterns using simple moves, and its always good fun to show off to your friends. The product can make you look exceptionally smart, especially if you can solve it at a reasonable speed. There are alot of imitation cubes on the market, this one is a proper cube though. It feels very durable and after alot of time using it becomes less stiff and easier to turn, without impairing any of the build quality. If you can't solve it following the instructions I would recommend taking the cube apart rather than peeling away the stickers, as they are unlikely to stick back on properly once peeled off.
I recently took the cube with me on a long train journey and managed to teach my friend how to solve it, and people on the train all looked amazed as we both solved it. Im currently trying to solve a 4x4 version of the cube, but it is much more difficult! I would say you would be able to solve the cube if you set aside 2 or 3 days to it, but you can spend forever making various patterns and simply solving it. Its an excellent toy, although I would have doubts buying it for people under 10 years of age, they may find it a bit intimidating. It also makes an excellent office toy. The only bad thing is that the cube does feel a little bit stiff during the first couple of hours of use, but this disappears once you have used it for a while. Also, the instructions arent presented in the most basic format I have seen for solving the cube, although you may interpret them different from me.
