The game has all the key tournaments and players in and also has several mini games and a career mode similar to current football games. For the tournaments you can jump straight into the action as your team of choice. This is where the first glitch comes into play as individual players are ranked on Power, Speed, Handling and Kicking and some of these appear to be in accurate. The career mode has you starting with a Division 4 team which you must turn into world beaters. This offers more of a challenge as you have to build up your individual player through a series of mini games, manage injuries, finances and transfers. The game play is very arcady and is easy to get into with passing managed by the left and right trigger buttons. However it is very simplistic with no ability to call moves, this would have been nice using the D pad for simple instructions (ie bringing fullback into the line). The only real options you have to perform anything other than passing the ball is a hand off using the B button or a sidestep using the left and right triggers (which can be sensitive). Another gripe is that it can be extremely difficult to get the ball from a higher ranked team as there are very few knock ons. Overall the game is good fun with the ability to have 4 players at once making it a good game to play with freinds. However the lack of complexity will make it to simplistic for some rugby fans, who will get frustated by the lack of options.
Advantages: Lots to unlock Disadvantages: Graphics are lame
...and complete. I am a rugby player myself and by playing the game from a commentators view, i picked up on rules i never knew before which improves my game. My friend who has never played rugby before also found this and he now understands the game just as well as me! The size and placement of the lines on the pitch is also very accurate and it gives you a sense of how big the pitch is.
Although this game does teach you a lot about rugby, the graphics ... ...that the some of the tackles you put in usually miss, even when you are standing right next to the ball carrier. But computer players can somehow tacle from a good few metres away! The whole kicking concept is also very complicated and all you can really do is pass the ball down the line.
Despite the poor graphics and complexity of the controls, the game has many challenges and leagues which are really fun! You can create a team that plays in leagues ...
