What is Rugby League.

Rugby League is a sport that has its roots actually in football history although neither sport bear any resemblance to what we know them as today. Way back in the early days of the sport it was called football and this was played in schools, although each school seemed to have their own version of the rules. There where 2 versions of the game, the handling of the ball and the kicking game (19th century). These ...
...the Rugby Football Union.

During 1895 rugby had lots of problems mainly brought about by the fact that there where lots of northern working class team who had great success much to the disgust of the gentry who ran the game There where many disputes relating to time off work to play, where pay was stopped and as there where more working class players they could not afford to lose any income due to the ban on 'compensation' that was ... more

come and be converted

Advantages: good fun to watch, a family sport and not as expensive as football
Disadvantages: Evening matches finish late for kids who often have rugby training themselves on a Saturday morning

Rugby league is my favourite sport whether it is amateur or professional. There are 2 main divisions, the northern ford premiership and the superleague. Superleague consists of 12 teams who compete for the top 5 positions to go into the playoffs for the grand final. The team who finishes top of the league are not guaranteed the superleague trophy (ask the Bradford fans). It is a very physical game consisting of two 40 minute halves. Players who are ...
...but still lose. Rugby league has traditionally been a Sunday afternoon sport but has now shifted to Friday and Saturday evenings for Superleague, mainly to fit in with Sky sports. Although this is inconvenient for lifelong fans it is the price we have to pay for the input of Sky and its funding. Every Friday and Saturday a match is televised, usually the best teams at that time. At the moment rugby union is trying to poach some of the best league ...

The Greatest Game

Advantages: Fast paced sport, very exciting, lots of clubs, cheap
Disadvantages: Should be even more games on TV

...over 10 years now. Rugby League is a very big passion of mine. My first game In October 1993 my next door neighbours asked if I wanted to go to the game with them I said yes because I'd always wanted to go. The game was against Halifax at Wilderspool with Warrington winning in the end, despite it being cold and the floodlights going out for over 20 minutes I loved every second of it and the day after I bought my Wolfpack season ticket which was ...
...Super League games. So rugby league is a cheap sport to follow. The League's Rugby League has a number of league's with teams spread out all over the country. The best game in England!

Advantages: Fast, exciting game
Disadvantages: The referees!

Rugby league... is the best game in England, trust me! I know that some people will read this and think, how can she say that, football is the best game, BUT...... Rugby league is fast, skillful and free flowing. Basically the aim is to score a try, (worth four points), in a set of six tackles or less. The opposition stops the attacking team by tackling them and when the ref shouts 'held' that is the first tackle complete. When an attacking team ...
...to argue my case..... Rugby league involves skill.....good ball handling, a good kicking game, vision, positional sense, good defence, and good attack. Rugby league involves pace....both on attack and in defence. Rugby league involves a good defence and a good attack. You may argue that other sports have these skills as well, but add passion, commitment, and the odd punch up, and you have rugby league down to a tee. Now add the passion of a local ...

Come On You Saints

Advantages: The most breathtaking sporting action there is
Disadvantages: The move to summer rugby unfortunately does NOT guarantee a summer

the promises of greater riches, which demonstrates his commitment to the Saints cause and to Rugby League in general. Left Wing: Tony Stewart Wigan born, Stewart has established himself as a first team regular. On his day, he is a powerful and pacy runner who has the ability to get the ball over the try line against the odds. The problem with Stewart is that he blows hot and cold, and for this reason he has yet to win over the Saints faithful completely. He is still one to watch, and the next year or two will prove crucial to his development as a Rugby League player. Left Centre: Paul Newlove Newlove is a legend in the British game, and is arguably the best attacking centre of the last decade. In his prime he had unrivalled power, deceptive pace and an unnerving ability to slip a pass out to the winger in the most unlikely situation. Sadly ...

The A - Z of Wormy

Advantages: Much done
Disadvantages: Much to do

, things are beginning to look up for them. I played football myself at school and county level and still played until recently for my local league. I love Sport in general and as well as Football, I like Rugby, Cricket, HorseRacing and Golf. Unlucky. I placed a bet a couple of years ago on several teams winning their different leagues and cups. Well a few did the business and there was twenty grand riding on Sunderland winning the first division play-offs. They lost on penalties and believe it or not that five pound stake would have won me over fifty grand, what a sickener. Virgin. I lost my virginity when I was 16 to a girl called Lisa (different one) funnily enough. I used to have the keys to my sisters house and I took Lisa round in the dinner hour. It wasn't very romantic and it didn't last very long but you've gotta start somewhere ...
