Russell Hobbs Heritage Kettle – Country Cream

It wasn’t long ago that I was out shopping for a kettle to match my new colour scheme of red and black in the kitchen and I ended up with a cheap but nice looking kettle. However it may have been nice looking but the use of the thing left a lot to be desired and eventually it broke. It began to continuously boil and water would leak from the bottom. Fortunately it was within a year of owing it and I was able to take the kettle with receipt back to Argos to exchange it for something better.

As luck would have it the timing oft his couldn’t have been better as the house move is nearly upon us and the new kitchen (although old and very dated) is a different colour scheme and my tastes have somewhat changed. So with this in mind I was looking for a kettle that was a bit more neutral and a lot more practical.

Price and Availability

This Russell Hobbs Heritage Kettle is available in a few different colours but this Country Cream really caught my eye as it would go nicely in the new kitchen and work perfectly with the new design I have in mind. The price wasn’t too bad either at £49 when you think I paid £22 for a Cookworks kettle which broke within a year and didn’t have the rapid boil feature. Another draw for buying this particular kettle was the fact that you could get the matching toaster for half price if you were to buy that too. Now we didn’t need a new toaster but I am sure it would have broken within a few months had I not taken up this deal (plus the two items look so good together it was worth getting both at the same time.) Having just had a little look on Amazon I can see that it has a bit of a price reduction there and can be bougth on its own for £38 which is a very good price

The kettle was packaged well although easy to unpack and use straight away. I did have to boil the water a couple of times to make sure that the kettle was clean and wouldn’t taint the water on first use and my first cuppa was fine after I had done this.

Look and Design

The kettle itself is an old style but with a very modern and sleek look to it. The pour spout is large enough to fill from the kettle or water filter with easy and without too much if any spillage. The kettle is of a good size and has a 1.7 litre capacity which is more than enough for our needs and will do at least 6 large mugs without even being completely full. There is a side fill indicator which shows you how much water is in the kettle at any one time and this is helpful although I would of preferred it to state how many mugs you can get out of how much is in the kettle rather than the litre marks which is has.

The jug style kettle sits on a bottom plate and there is ample wiring to reach from the plug socket to the work surface where I have it and the design of the kettle means that you can have it either on the right or left hand side and still see the small orange LED light that illuminates when the kettle is boiling and it feel comfortable in both hands making it fine for both left or right handed people.
