Disadvantages Disadvantages If you don't subscribe then the price can be a bit expensive

I have been subscribed to SFX magazine for quite some time now and although I can get a lot of the news and other info from the internet I still enjoy the read. So as you can probably guess from the title, the mag will appeal to anyone who is into the Science-Fiction and Fantasy genre. This can range from Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter to Farscape and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Whatever you're into there's always something interesting to read. The magazine is 122 pages in total and covers all of the latest news and views in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy world. The magazine costs around £3.60 in the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Everything SF

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Adverts

SFX magazine is one of the leading monthly science fiction magazines on the market. I've been reading it since about 1998. The magazine covers everything from film to book to merchindisae etc, over many SF and cult genres. SFX copntains four main scetions which are dispersered throughout its 122 pages. The first few pages, entitled 'Strange Tales', features the months SF and cult news. This covers anything from new films to axed shows, who's writing what to who's starring in what any anything else the SFX team feels we ought to know. You can also find tid-bits such as Fahrenheit 451 and Objet ... more

Advantages Advantages A fun read covering all the best SF on TV and films, as well as books and comics

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gives too much away about plots

My eyes wandered upwards to the top shelf, drawn by the glossy, enticing cover. I must not buy it. I must not succumb, I repeat to myself. People give me an odd look. Did I say that out loud? My head feels hot and I realise I am blushing. My palms start to sweat. I know my wife doesn’t want me to buy it but I WANT it so much. I NEED it! I know it will make me feel so good. I could hide it. Sneak it in. She’d never know. But then I wouldn’t be able to read it in front of her. And she’s bound to detect my guilt even if she doesn’t find the magazine. I could take it ... more

Advantages Advantages Best SF mag in the uk

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes people think you're buying a magazine called SEX

I've been reading SFX magazine for about four years now, and it's just got better and better. It's one of only two magazines that I have to buy every single month (the other one is Empire - The film magazine). SFX is a magazine dedicated to science fiction and fantasy in general. Anything that falls into this remit is in, and even things that don't on occasion. For instance they included TOTP2 in one issue because it was having a vaguely SF based edition. Likewise the C4 sitcom gets quite a lot of mentions, because although it is a sitcom, it contains a huge number of homages to SF as well ... more

Advantages Advantages Intelligent writing, good coverage, entertaining read

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit pricey at £3, but worth it.

I've subscribed to this mag for a couple of years now and despite the odd format change, it has always proved an interesting, informative and entertaining read. The title of the mag SFX is often obscured by the photo on the front so that the bottom of the "F" cannot be seen, thus making it look like the mag has the word SEX emblazoned across the cover, so always attracts some attention when you read it on a packed train! The cover price is £2.95 (or it was before I started subscribing) and often has freebies, they gave a free paperback DrWho book away last month that was actually quite good ... more
