Advantages: Good quality results. Good build. Compact. Price. Disadvantages: Distortion with architecture and interior shots.
centre performance at 10mm quickly attains an EXCELLENT rating, with edges rising to VERY GOOD and corners to VERY GOOD- which is quite impressive. The lens tends to perform slightly less well from about 14 to 20mm at the edges and in particular, the corners. Although even these retain a satisfactory level.
CA's (Chromatic Aberrations) or colour fringing, are handled quite well by this lens. A little surprising for such a wideangle zoom lens - although not quite as well as the Canon lens, At 10mm focal length CA's are around 1.5 pixels which, although quite noticeable, are still easily corrected in software. The problem decreases considerably when zooming in to longer focal lengths.
This is a really good lens and for most, a good (and less expensive) alternative to manufacturer's own 'marque' lenses. It is particularly good ...
Advantages: excellent image quality, sturdy build, great price Disadvantages: relatively slow aperture, slight softness in mid-range of zoom.
The Sigma 10-20mmEXlens is a low-to-mid priced lens, aimed at the amateur/enthusiast market and available in the usual Canon and Nikon mounts.
I own the Canon-fit, so all information contained in this review is in relation to that lens.
For anyone interested in landscape photography, a wide-anglelens is a must-have piece of equipment. With standard kit lenses generally weighing in at the 18mm range at their widest zoom setting, you will be astonished at what the extra 10mm can provide you with. With this extra range of view, it's also an ideal lens for architectural photography and can make even small interiors appear almost cavernous at times.
The lens itself is solidly-built, as you would expect given the pricetag and the SigmaEX badge - a mark of quality on Sigma's lens range - and the weight is satisfying. It may feel ...
This is possibly the best lens I own for my Canon EOS 30D DSLR. (And for £65 what a bargain!)
This is an incredibly light lens, and as I understand it, it is made entirely from plastic. It might feel a little too light, but believe me, it's a well constructed lens which yields fabulous results. It's also very cheap in comparison to other prime lenses, and I would consider it much better value for money than the 50mmf/1.4
As a prime lens, 50mm fixed, f/1.8 it can be used in relatively low light without a flash since it lets so much light through to the camera... Shorter exposure times means your subject has less time to move. It also has a pretty shallow depth of field, so a perfectly focussed subject can have a wonderfully blurred background.
The tiny box this comes in contains the lens, front and rear caps, and a small leaflet ...

Manufacturer's product description
Sigma 20mm f1.8 EX DG Aspherical RF is one of several EX Series lenses. It is the first 20mm Super wide-angle lens in the world with a large aperture of F1.8 and angle of view 94.5 degree. It has Macro focusing capability with a minimum focusing distance of 20cm/7.9inches (reproduction ratio 1: 4). The iris diaphragm has 9 diaphragm blades to obtain beautiful out of focus image. It incorporates an aspherical lens element in the front as well as rear lens groups, to minimize distortion, spherical aberration and astigmatism. The lens has non-vignetting optical construction, in order to obtain adequate peripheral brightness with open aperture. This is especially desirable for digital cameras. The lens incorporates a rear focus system eliminating front lens rotation, thus allowing the use of a Perfect Hood and easy use of polarizing filters. The lens also incorporates dual-focus mechanism. It is easy to hold the lens, since the focusing ring does not rotate during auto-focus, yet it provides adequate focusing torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens. The lens materials used in this lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.
