This is possibly the best lens I own for my Canon EOS 30D DSLR. (And for £65 what a bargain!)
This is an incredibly light lens, and as I understand it, it is made entirely from plastic. It might feel a little too light, but believe me, it's a well constructed lens which yields fabulous results. It's also very cheap in comparison to other prime lenses, and I would consider it much better value for money than the 50mmf/1.4
As a prime lens, 50mm fixed, f/1.8 it can be used in relatively low light without a flash since it lets so much light through to the camera... Shorter exposure times means your subject has less time to move. It also has a pretty shallow depth of field, so a perfectly focussed subject can have a wonderfully blurred background.

This a great wide-angle zoom lens offering professional performance, results and is a joy to use.
It is suitable for both digital SLR's and 35mm Film cameras and focusing can be used manually or autofocus.
This my first Sigmalens as I own only quality Nikon lenses so I was unsure at first about purchasing a brand and lens unknown to me.
Any doubts or fears about quality were put to rest as soon as I took the lens out of it's box. It is as well crafted as any Nikon lens and a truly remarkable piece of design. It has an unusual appearance as instead of the usual glass flat surface lens it has a "bobble" or "ball" of glass which has a very alien look to it. I'm still not used to this and I feel that as it is sticking out so much that it may be a bit vulnerable to potential damage ...

Sigma 24mm f1.8 EX DG Aspherical Macro is one of the EX Series lenses. This lens has a fast F1.8 maximum aperture with macro focusing capability of minimum focusing down to 18cm/7.1inches (reproduction ratio 1: 2.7). The iris diaphragm has 9 diaphragm blades to obtain beautiful out of focus image. It incorporates the floating focus system and uses two aspherical lens elements for minimizing distortion and spherical aberration and astigmatism. Internal focus system eliminates front lens rotation, thus allowing the use of a Perfect Hood and the easy use of polarizing filters. The lens incorporates non-vignetting optical construction, in order to obtain adequate peripheral brightness even at open aperture. This is desirable for digital cameras. The lens also incorporates dual-focus mechanism. It is easy to hold the lens, since focusing ring does not rotate during auto-focus, and yet it provides adequate focusing torque of the focusing ring during manual focusing of the lens. The lens materials used in this new lens are lead and arsenic free ecological glass.
