Contax G2 by Mark Packer
Advantages: Lenses, Build, Feel Disadvantages: Viewfinder, Flash, Auto focus, noise
I was excited about this camera. I wanted a light system that I could take anywere and I had read many good things about the lenses and build quality. I sold by Nikon N90s and most of my lenses to buy the G2 with 45mm and flash. I also purchased the 28mm and the 90mm and got a $700 rebate from Contax. Great deal! I wanted to love this camera- I really did. And there was much to love- superb lenses. fantistic build, great feel. But after using it ... ...not get used to. The viewfinder was terrible- small and dark. I expected more for a camera the size of the G2- perhaps the view similar to a Leica M. It was more like the view that a point and shoot would have. The second problem was the flash. I was used to the wonerful fill flash Nikon produces, so the limits of the TLA 200 were a disappointment, I endied up selling everything for a good price on ebay. I bought a Nikon F100 a 20-35mm f2.8 and a ...

Olympus E-30. Still not up there with the big boys?
Advantages: Fold out LCD screen, Image Stabilization, Zuiko lens quality, Picture quality, Flash options Disadvantages: Noise in low light, Too many buttons, Badly laid out, Too many gimmicks
...front (or "Sub dial" as Olympus call it) is a little awkward to use and the Mode Dial is on the left side, whereas I like it to be on the right. As you aren't likely to use it without a lens attached, the weight is dependant on your choice of lens but the E-30 body is lighter then the Canon EOS 50D but heavier than the Nikon D90. The menus are easy to read and relatively easy to use, with most of the common functions being available on the "Super ... ...the same battery as the Olympus E-3, which may be a consideration for people with multiple cameras, and the optional battery-grip allows the use of AA batteries. Image Stabilization is via CCD shift and now has 3 modes, with vertical panning being catered for. This is worth up to 5 stops of shutter speed if you believe the Olympus documentation. Picture quality is of course dependant on the lens you are using but I have always found the Zuiko lenses ...

Good, but basic, 35mm SLR
Advantages: light, easy to use, enough features for the amature, slr, interchangeable lens Disadvantages: limited features
I have had this camera for about 3 years now and its still a delight to shoot with, its nice and simple to use and is nice and light. It has an optional strap but its so light so it never feels like a chore carry it. You can attatch a great range of lenses, i have a 90-300mm zoom and a fish eye, as well as the supplied lens of 28-90mm which makes it very versatile. It comes with a decent built in flash and doesn't eat through batteries (cr2's) To ...

Excellent Bag of tricks
Advantages: durable, reliable, big viewfinder, fast. Disadvantages: 1/125th flash sync, does not meter with manual nikon lenses.
...how good a film SLR Nikon could make these days. The only time I messed up is when I was using a flash gun for fill-in on portraits, however I think this was my bad because I just put the third party flash gun on the camera and started shooting portraits with no diffuser thinking the camera would just get it right, but of course without using flash exposure compensation or slow sync the camera has tried to use the flash to provide as much of the ... ...also a good buy for Nikon Digital SLR owner who has never tried film before or want to benefit from a larger view finder, try cross Processing ECT. And of course an ideal camera for students. Unfortunately it will not meter with manual focus Nikon lenses, I have not Idea why but that does stop me from being able to use a lot of older cheaper glass, so if you want to use older glass get a light meter or an F90x. ...

Artistic camera for artistic photographers
Advantages: Excellent auto-focus performance Disadvantages: NONE!!!
...eyes were set on an Olympus E-30 on the displays of an Olympus retail shop. I went in, asked about the features it has and the price, after about 10 minutes, the new E-30 was in my hands. Excited, I went home and tested out its features. It has various upmarket features. Prominently, it packs a 12.3 megapixel lens, which makes every picture you take, look more artistic, even without using the PC's software. One of the features in the E-30 is Art ... ...Although Olympus does not release new DSLRs as much as Canon and Nikon do, its inventive features are later used by market leaders. The E-30's artistic features and excellent auto-focus performance make the camera stand above other DSLRs. ALSO POSTED ON CIAO.COM, UNDER THE SAME USERNAME, JudgeIronFist ...
