Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives Disadvantages: Bit expensive, Not full speed with every machine
walk you step by step through the settings but I just log into the router in a web browser to add my settings. The user interface is very straight forward with everything under the appropriate headings. I can find the options that I want at a glance. Internet connection settings, port forwarding and wireless settings are easily found and set. If you get stuck, the manual on the CD or the Belkin website should answer any questions.
PERFORMANCE, CONNECTION AND STABILITY
On my PC, I manage to get the full 130Mbit speed that my Linksys wireless dongle allows. However, on my WirelessN laptop, it only gets a speed of 54Mbits, no matter how close I am. Previous cheaper Belkin and Linksys WirelessN routers gave me faster speeds (240Mbit or something). This only affects internal network speed and doesn?t affect Internet speed though ...
Advantages: Fast speeds, Reliable, Stylish Disadvantages: I had wireless problems, Gets a bit warm, no restart router option in config
The Linksys WAG160NN300 is an ADSL2+ wireless modem router, meaning it has a a modem built in. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. It?s an ADSL2 router, which means it supports the newer ADSL standard, which could mean faster transfer speeds although this really depends on your line quality, distance from Exchange, service with ISP, etc. The router currently costs £74.99 from PC World but a bit less at £59.99 on their website. I bought mine about 8 months ago on Ebuyer for around £55.
IN THE BOX
You receive two ADSL filter
s, RJ11 cable, user manual, manual and software CD, power adapter and lastly, the router itself.
THE ROUTER ITSELF
One thing I quite like about the router is that it looks quite ...
Advantages: Great stable router with great range and speed Disadvantages: None found yet
Picking a router is pretty difficult these days.
There are an awful lot of routers out there and it is very, very difficult to choose the right one for you. The obvious things to consider are
? Price
? Ease of use/Ease of set up
? Speed
? Range
? After sales support
The more technical would also consider the functionality offered.
The DG834N ticks the right boxes in each of these areas.
Out of the box the router looks rather sleek. It's a white box roughly the same size of a hardback book. Some yellowish flashing lights at the front inform you whether the router is switched on, whether it's connected to the internet, and whether it is transmitting a wireless signal. It also has no external aerials which I'll come back to in a moment.
The router comes with the standard 4 Ethernet ports and supports both ADSL and ADSL2+ and as far as I ...

The SMC Barricade N Draft 11n Broadband Router (SMCWBR14-N) is the perfect all-in-one networking solution for connecting and sharing your high-speed cable/xDSL Internet connection. This platform independent multi-functional router combines a 4-port 10/100Mbps LAN switch with Automatic MDI-MDIX, a high speed wireless access point (AP) with speeds up to 300Mbps, NAT firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), Intelligent stream handling technology and User friendly Web-based management interface in one convenient device. The built-in wireless AP is compliant with the next generation IEEE802.11n draft v1.0 specification while maintaining full backwards compatibility with the IEEE802.11b/g standards. This next generation wireless networking standard utilizes advanced MIMO (Multiple-In, Multiple-Out) technology to deliver incredible speed and range. With wireless speeds up to 300Mbps - 5x the speed of 802.11g, the SMCWBR14-N provides enough bandwidth to stream HD video, listen to digital music, play online games, transfer large files, make VoIP calls and surf the Internet simultaneously. To further enhance your wireless experience Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) technology is included to provide quality-ofservice (QoS) by prioritizing and optimizing the handling of different applications. To secure your wireless connection and prevent unauthorized access the SMCWBR14-N supports the latest WPA/WPA2 wireless security standards. WEP 64-Bit and 128-Bit wireless encryption is also provided for securely connecting legacy devices, which do not support the latest WPA/WPA2 standards. The integrated NAT firewall with SPI provides protection from hackers and Denial of Service (Dos) attacks by analyzing individual data packets, to ensure that only authorized packets are allowed access to the network. To control network access, parents, or network administrators can block certain websites, limit web access based on time or dates, and/or block Internet access for applications like P2P utilities or games. StreamEngine technology provides intelligent stream handling by automatically managing the flow of traffic going to the Internet, without the need for user configuration. As a result, real-time interactive traffic, such as gaming, VoIP, instant messaging and video conferencing, are automatically given the appropriate priority when other users and applications use the network. In addition, Intelligent Stream Handling minimizes the impact of large-packet, lower-priority traffic on latency-sensitive traffic and eliminates delays caused by DSL or cable modem connections. StreamEngine technology effectively eliminates the lag and breakup problem in online gaming and other voice/video applications. Finally, installation is made simple and straightforward with the intuitive web-based management interface and EZ Installation Wizard.
