What can I say I love my C500. I've had an Orange smartphone ever since the first SPV came out - I was first attracted to it by the messenger facility as I spent most of my days talking to my friends online.
The early SPV was full of bugs though and crashed quite regularly and of course the camera was a seperate attachment so a year later I upgraded to the SPV E200.
About a month later they brought out the C500 - I'm usually behind by a year with mobiles but even though I was happy with the SPV E200 - afterall it was a better version of the phone I had had for a year - with a built in camera - I thought I would splash out and try and keep up with the technology this time.
I paid for my C500 - only the cost of the upgrade fee mid-contract. It was enough but of course the C500 was worth every penny.
Compared to the previous SPV's and some Nokia's, it is well designed in looks not just hardware. I chose the black casing as I personally perferred it to the silver. I have heard that they scratch easily but I'm always super careful with my phones anyhoo (there were no cases available when I first got it but there are some around now).
The software seems to be a lot more stable and reliable than the early SPV and I've only had the phone crash out on me once or twice - this is where the screen freezes totally and only a power down will sort it out. Most phones are just that phones, you see, but the C500 is a smartphone and runs on windows - so it acts like window and is super easy to use - if you can use windows that is :)
It has all the functions I need not really as a phone but more a PDA. As a phone it is as good as Nokia (better predictive text than a Nokia) and as it runs on Windows CE is basically like a mini computer (menu systems are therefore easy) and does things in a similar way like adding and removing files. I no longer need to carry around a manual diary - I can put all my friends addresses and birthdays in it (and it reminds me of their birthdays too!). There is also downloadable software for things like keeping your bank details or passwords in a safe place - not to mention downloadable games and other programs etc.
The built in camera/ video camera is good quality but not so good in dim lighting.
But the facilities I use most are Messenger (don't chat quite as much as the early SPV days but useful none the less), email - this is easy to set up and use as it is basically mini outlook (a lot of my friends with 'other' phones have real trouble setting up their email accounts on their phones), and internet - you can surf normally pages but they are huge and expensive to download but there are special PDA sized sites that fit perfectly to the size of your screen. My bank has one of these so I can check my account easily on the move if I need to.
There is also a mini version of windows media player that will play small videos and music - I dont particularly use this function although I did download the free software from orange that allows you to download or transfer music directly to your phone but found there was limited choice.
The nearest thing I have to music on my phone is the two custom ring tones I have. These are classed as 'real ringtones' as they are basically cut down music files. They're a lot better than polyphonic! but unfortuantely nobody ever rings me :(
Oh one last final note...if you do decide to buy a smartphone I would wholeheartedly recommend you visit www.modaco.com (no they're not paying me to say that)- it is a site that will help you out when you get stuck, will give you links to smartphone sites/ software upgrades, tell you where to buy software/ accessories, and connect you with other smartphone users.
Advantages: Compatible with the Windows environment, simple navigation, slick, compact and a big screen. Disadvantages: The phone can crash like windows based computers, this has happened 4 times in 5 months.
...really good deal, which include SPV C500 Smart Phone. Once i got off the phone I went straight to the internet to discover more. Then I discovered the phone has a windows operating system.....
So a few days later, it came special delivery. I opened it and what a phone, its as small as a Nokia 725i, it looked stylish (before i droped it a few time). It has a scroll button in the middle of the phone, which is very handy to navigate through the menus. ... ...the new SPV is released sometime in the future. This phone is far better than the Nokias in my opinion. You can only get this phone on ORANGE to my knowledge. Sorry, it is a little brief, i could spend hours reciting every little detail.
Many thanks

Advantages: Nice looking design, large screen, small for a Windows smartphone Disadvantages: Windows Mobile 2003 now slightly dated (as is the camera), thumbstick could be better
Although this phone is now fairly old it still looks good, is small for a windows phone and has features to match many newer phones, apart from perhaps the camera and the software on it. I bought this phone second hand for £35, and have seen a fair number selling for around this price, and I have to say it's excellent value for money.

The software on this phone is very good, but not as well supported as the newer Windows Mobile 5.0. I also had problems finding any notepad style application on it, only voice notes. However this isn't too much of a problem thanks to the beauty of a smartphone - if you're missing functionality ...

Advantages: Most of the features of a PDA in a compact, attractive unit Disadvantages: Older version of Windows Mobile - no Powerpoint view etc
...years, I chose the Orange SPV C500 on the basis of its feel and features, but with some hesitation. Would it live up to its specification?
Some years on, I've changed networks but kept this phone (unlocking by software was easy and free). It simply does 90% of all I might need, but in a small and robust unit that is obviously a phone and not a PDA brick.
Windows Mobile is a pleasure to use. Applications run simultaneously - there's no need to exit ... ...history to browsing is a doddle, unlike the cute and slim Motorola I have as a backup.
Outlook synchronises easily and naturally. I tend to use the USB cable rather than Bluetooth for this, simply because if I'm by my PC the phone may as well be charging. Just one quibble here: there's no simple 'storage mode' so plugging in to a new PC won't let you upload or download files onto the mini-SD card. There's no hot swap, so achieving the same result ...

Advantages: High Quality, plenty of features Disadvantages: Reliability issues
I recently changed to Orange so that I could get a hold of one of these. First impressions of this phone are very good. The handset is quite light for the type of phone and the build quality and finish are perfect. The screen and keyboard are easy to use and understand. Battery life is fantastic. The other great thing is the charging. It can be done via a normal USB cable to your PC which can be more than useful and is even better seeing as Orange ... ...good and include all the usual mobile features of today. With the smart technology and the OS onside they become far more useable than normal phones. Apps on the phone are easy to use and understand but options in some of the menus get a little confusing due to the high number of things you can do.
Sound quality in calls is perfect but recption can sometimes be questionable.
Other cool features include the ability to play movies etc but this is ...

Advantages: Money's worth, Small, sleek, well designed, good battery, Easy to use Disadvantages: No Cradle, No Screen Saver, No Auto Lock.
Got this phone 2 weeks ago and I think it a lovely phone...
It is very affordable compare to Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola mobiles as I got for free and amazingly Line rental is also off for 9 months what more bargain you can get, secondly Microsoft has done a great job. Pros
Windows environment looks very familiar.
Phone is very small compare to other PDA mobiles in the market it is also very light around (100 grams), Its also very neat and ... ...to use.
Sound is amazingly good, but u can't set MP3 songs as ringtone as it only accepts midi format.
The screen is quite big and bright, the picture quality is allright I think its is better than P900.
The linkage wit the computer is really great as the file transfer is very very quick.
Syncing with Outlook is awesome.
You can play WMA files in this mobile which is definitely a big advantage as WMA files normally takes very less space as compare ...

Advantages: great functions Disadvantages: everything
this phone is the worst i have ever had unless you dieing to send a couple of e-mail dont get it its far to bulky and the key layout is so enoying if you want a phone with alot of bussiness functions and one that looks great too i would suggest you buy a orange spvc500 or c550 or c600 as these phone are great although the 6260 my look better in the pics its not once you get them next to one another you can really tell how much better the spv looks and how much better the ease of use is. also my friend owns a phone shop and says that the 6260 are common to have a speaker problem where you cant hear nothing out of the speaker and the swivel tops also come loose and often and talking of swivel tops nokia made a dedicated camera position which is useless unless you wanna just show off beacuse the resulotion is far more rubbish when its in ...

Advantages: Built-in GPS, 500Mhz Processor, Touchscreen Disadvantages: Sometimes crashes, camera is awful
After recently owning a SPVC500 smartphone from Orange and a bluetooth GPS unit, I decided that an ideal secondary task for a mobile phone would be a GPS unit with TomTom. When I heard that there was a mobile phone coming out that was not only a fully featured smartphone but also had a built-in GPS unit, I was quick off the mark to get one on a contract from Vodaphone.
The unit comes installed with Windows Mobile 2005 (not to be confused with Windows Smartphone, they are very different) and the usual host of tools to use the features of the phone. The phone has a screen that takes up most of the phones front with good clarity and quick refresh, although can be a little hard to read in sunlight and almost impossible in strong direct sunlight. The touchscreen is very sensitive and usually pretty accurate so mis-touches are few and far ...
