...Several years ago I was looking to invest some spare cash each month. Not huge amounts, just £50 a month. I was not sure what I should invest in so started doing some research (reading - this was before the internet) and found three products that I thought would do the business
1) Endowment
2) Unit Trust
3) Investment Trust
I eliminated the first due to the amount of money lost via charges.
I then also elimenated the second also due to charges.
I didn't know much about the third but now know that they are limited companies that invest in shares. Their charges were much lower than the other two options.
Ok then why are they less popular than Unit Trusts? The popular idea put about is that Investment Trusts trade at a discount - i.e. their cost is less than the value of the shares held by them. That sounded like a good reason...

Advantages: Good money managers & easy to use Disadvantages: not on the net yet
...I first invested £3000 in scottish Equitable Unit trust in november 99.
I have just cashed in my profit from them & it had doubled.
They are so easy to work with you just phone them on a free phone number & they send every thing you need to sign next day. Even after the Technology correction earlyer this year I had still doubled my money. You can also swap your money between there different fund without charges which is great if you get the gitters like with the market wobbling now and then I just swapped mine into cash fund & when the market settled down I put it back into tech fund.
This fund is the best investment I have made. The companys phone number is
0800454422...

...I'm no expert on banking and I haven't banked with many companies except Halifax, but Nat West has never disappointed me . Once thgey charged me for going overdrawn but one polite phonecall saw to it that my surcharge was dropped. Nat West have an excellent distribution of cash machines in and around London. Just with my switch and Cirrus function on my card I was able to withdraw dollars and local currencies whilst travelling in South America.
I have also always found the service in the banks to be most satisfactory and on a few occasions (when I was a student) I have been able to borrow money from them at very short notice when I really needed it.
Nat West may not be as glamorous as all these new internet banks but they've got the reputation and the trust of the majority of their customers....
