...Our main driver for the SAAB was the safety aspect with a young family but I've always wanted a SAAB, having admired them from afar as a kid/teenager. We've got the first deisel model of the lower 115bhp by the way. Whilst the handling around corners can be a bit roly poly otherwise I love this car and we intend on keeping it for many years to come. I far prefer this model to the later boxier models, but that's personal preference. On long runs petrol consumption is good and whilst maintenace costs can be high, it feels like an investment for the ongoing running of a lifelong friend that just paying to maintain a car. 93 versus BMW and Audi

Advantages: second hand value
Disadvantages: cost new

This Saab is an excellent machine and has a specific place in the market where its true value can be appreciated. If you are buying a new car in this class then it is not good value its too expensive and looses value too quickly, however, if its a used car you are after then this is where I feel the value lies. A second hand one is nearly as good as the same level BMW and Audi its well speced fast and frugal but is much much cheaper to buy and maintain ...

Saab 900 2.0i 16v 1997 5dr

Advantages: Great drive and enjoyable to own. Everyone must drive a Saab a least once.
Disadvantages: Thirsty, parts expensive if bought from a dealer.

I owned a Saab 900 2.0i for 1 year, comfortable and great looking, a bit thirstly but cheap enough for a 30 something. Bit of a head turner in light green and lovily engine noices. Having a saab is quite an experience for cruising on motorways and eating up those A roads with ease. The GM cross took a while for me to accept but grew on me as a big fan of the old 900s and 99s. But the new 9-3s are ace and had me drippling in Lemington Spa dealers. ...

Love it

Advantages: Huge boot. Comfort. Looks
Disadvantages: Expensive repair

I bought my saab 9-5 2.3t 4 years ago and it was a high mileage second hand car at the time and I'm only just thinking about replacing it. This car is superb. I bought it after owning a saab 9000i which I found to be very comfortable and reliable and the saab 9-5 is no different. Although the servicing costs are relatively high I have only once had a problem with the engine and this is in a car which is fast approaching 200000 miles on the clock. ...
...the passanger compartment, with the saab stereo, climate control and power steering your comfort level doesn't change, in fact its very hard to believe the speed your doing without looking at the speedo. And this is because its a big, heavy, motorway machine. Driving it around town and trying to park it at the local supermarket is hard work. The massive boot, where you can store your whole families luggage for a two week holiday, makes reverse parking ...
