I've been driving the 93 now for six months, and it really is a fantastic car for the money, and more than capable of warding off it's more expensive equivalents, such as the BMW 3 series and Audi A4.
The higher specification 93's feature full leather, climate control, cruise control, full electrics, onboard computer and a lot more to boot. I picked up a 2000 X plate for £8,500 from a car supermarket, saving a couple of thousand on the Saab dealership prices. There are some great bargains to be had on these cars if you go out there and look for them.
The car is a solid as they come, the moment to nuzzle into the soft leather seat you feel instantly at home, surrounded by a mass of walnut dash with an array of chunky controls easily in reach of the steering wheel, you get a certain sense of the quality that has been built into this Scandinavian masterpiece. Safety is present too, with multiple airbags on most models as well as ABS and the usual 'crumple-zones'. The doors are as heavy as the Bank of England's vaults, and with the climate control and cruise control on the higher end models (mine's an SE) you have little to distract you while driving. In fact it's almost to easy to drive, and to forget your in control of a two tonne 153bhp car.
The lpt (light pressure turbo) is designed to cut in as soon as pressure is applied to the accellerator, as opposed to other turbo'd cars where the turbo cuts in at a certain RPM. This makes for a much smoother ride, and I believe is essential for getting a car as heavy as the 93 moving. Unlike it's cousin the 93 HOT (high output turbo) it's not an all out road racer, more a refined, luxury car that safely and smoothly takes you to where your going. Often overlooked, you'll not see many 93s on the road compared with the BMWs, but thats a good thing, isn't it?
On the downside, economy around town in terrible, following a knee injury I opted for the SE automatic, which features a very solid gearbox and running gear taken from the Daihatsu four wheel drives (correct me if I'm wrong here!), subsequently driving around town in a car as heavy as this one, coupled with an automatic transmission, means fuel economy of around 22mpg, enough to make anyone weep at the pumps. That said, on a long run (and keeping the Sports mode switched off!) you can easily get upwards of 35-40mpg economy.
All in all, I don't regret choosing the Saab 93 over the many other cars in it's class. To my mind, you get a whole lot of car for the money, the knowing you're driving an executive car, and the appearance that you're a lot richer than you really are!

...company car then..) brand new Saab 9-3 Aero (210hp) back in -04 I was very happy.
I had taken a few months of reviewing several cars and brands before I decided to go for the Saab 9-3.
Basically the choice where made on the looks of the car itself, the price compared to similar cars from other brands, safety and comfort since I spent all my time on the roads back then and the feeling of driving it. During the two years I spent in this car I drove approximately three laps around the earth which means that I had to sit comfortably. The seats in the car are real nice. You get the sporty feeling of them, they adjust perfectly and the fact that the headrests is one of the best around in case of being in an accident just makes them ultimate. The console and instruments ...

I have just purchased a Saab 9-3 SE 2.0T 2001 after looking at Golfs, Passats and A4s it was all down to price and value for money at first. That was until I drove the 9-3, WOW! I felt like I was in one of the Saab's fighter jets, yes just like the advert with dash all lit up like a Christmas tree. At first I was gentle with her getting use to the controls etc, then a quick squirt of the loud pedal and we were off. I thought I had made a mistake ... ...Control

...have ever own. Owning a Saab means is like standing out from the pack. Sick and tired of seeing BMW's everywhere, the decision to purchase a Saa 9-3 will be one that you would be happy with.
Apart from being differnet to the typical german brands, the key benefit you get is having alot of car for less money. The 2 litre Aero provides Leather seats, 17 inch alloys, Climate, 6 CD changer and 6 speed gearbox for starters. The sweetest thing about this ... ...dial move is a joy in itself.
The car is a joy to drive, smooth and calming, little noise and the most comfortable seats you would wish for.
Along motorways it is in a differnt class, with enough space to comfortabvly seat 5 people and big boot space.
The only drag is the fuel economy where you are luckcy to get 28MPG. But when you have so many other positives and delights to experience driving this, this soon becomes a little matter.
Would i ...

Advantages: Style, saftey, comfort and reliablilty Disadvantages: Urban motoring can be expensive
An all round good car, comfortable and easy to drive with a responsive engine, the five door version has excellent passenger space and a large boot. For motorway driving the comfort cannot be matched and economy is good, but around town it can be thirsty. Little or no road noise at speed and the supportive and comfortable driving position leave nothing to be desired.
The classic styling does not age the car and the reputation of Saabs for reliability ...

Advantages: Comfortable, safe and classy Disadvantages: Wind whistle and lack of central-locking on glove box
I bought my first Saab9-3 SE Convertible 2.0t in April 2003, a fleet disposal 39,000 miler with full service history on a ?T? plate (1999).
It is the Light Pressure Turbo variant with around 150bhp (the lowercase ?t? in ?2.0t? shows this, rather than ?T? which is the 185bhp variant).
I came from a Subaru Impreza Turbo company car, but was buying this myself.
I?d had convertibles in the past and despite fantastic performance from the Subaru, I just wanted to get back to that ?wind in the hair feeling?.
I?ve not been disappointed, as the car is fantastic.
I have two back seat ?occupants?, one 14 and one 5 years old, so space in the back was important. They can?t touch my seat when they?re in the back and I have my seat a long way back to free my long legs.
Seats are the best I?ve ever experienced. Dashboard layout is good ...
Advantages: relaively unique on the road Disadvantages: not the same quality as its superiors
We bought this car from new in an x reg. It was our first convertible car and was a step up from a mondeo sport. I have a number of good and bad issues with the car all.
Firstly this car is in a strongly repesented market. With BMW probably the best by a good distance. Mercedes, Audi and Volvo too. With such high competition this car needs to be alot to compete. On speed it is the fastest marginally than all the others. This is compared to the other 2 litre competitors. I think this is purely because of the turbo (low pressure). However its drive is average for a convertible, suffering from skuttle shake, due to poor structure common in soft tps but still bad maybe as it uses a subframe and chassis from vauxhall! Its price is reasonable compared to the others and comes with good features. It is relatively reliable but does use vauxhall ...
Advantages: Open top motoring, good looks and reliable - genuine four seater Disadvantages: internal squeeks and groans are annoying, the hard ride
I bought my Saab 93 2.0t last November. I have found the car to have a number of
issues. On the plus side, the car looks great, and as I have the Aero version, the acceleration is good.
However, due to the removal of the roof, the car does seem to flex and move (it creeks and groans quite a lot, which becomes annoying on long journey).
The ride is quite hard on the sports suspension and the low profile tyres but this does help with handling.
The flaws are annoying, but on sunny days, the roof comes off and I can then forgive the car it's little foibles. It also has four genuine seats and the boot is a good size with the roof up (much smaller when it is down though)
Overall, i would say the car was "ok" meaning satisfactory at best. I don't think I would want another when I get rid of this one though. ...
