Sabrina Spellman, played by actress Melissa Joan Hart in the television series, is a teenage witch living in the mortal realm in America, initially with her two Aunts; Hilda and Zelda, and her pet cat Salem (whom was once a warlock sentenced to 100 years as a house pet for attempted world domination). Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a hit TV series in the 90s, with a total of eight successful seasons. Although it is no longer in production, it is still incredibly popular. Each episode takes us on an incredible journey into the young witch's life, where we see her attempt to cope with being both a witch and a teenager at the same time.
With the series' a wide range of merchandise was released for its fans. Among the dolls and console games, a large amount of books could be fond, including the collection of novelizations. Book number #15 is 'Harvest Moon'. Each book in the range has its own attractive cover and this one in particular can be recognised by its luscious orange shade and matching sparkly Sabrina logo. It's glittery border makes it look very sparkly too. On the front you can see a picture of Melissa Joan Hart as Sabrina, aside Nate Richert who plays Harvey Kinkle. Harvey and Sabrina were together for the first four seasons so this indicates that this book is based around that time -much to my delight!
The plot itself tells us of another of Sabrina's antics. Sabrina is trying to organize the Harvest Moon Dance and raising funds with a carnival, but Libby keeps sticking her nose in. With a TV station doing a news feature on Libby and they are donating funds for the dance, so everybody else thinks Libby has the right to run the dance. But Sabrina knows this is wrong, and is prepared to use her magic to put things right.
This is most certainly an amazing story. For one thing, it is set during the time of year I adore. I love Autumn time, and reading this just gives me images of crisp leaves and delicious aromas. It's quite unique but there are a few similarities to the television show. In one of the episodes, 'Five Easy Pieces of Libby', everybody is trying to work on the school float and Libby gets in Sabrina's way, so it is only slightly similar. Other than that, it is perfect!
The book is written by Mel Odom – he was the first author I discovered in the Sabrina range and loved his style instantly. He has written other titles in the collection, including 'I'll Zap Manhattan', 'Mummy Dearest' and 'Pirate Pandemonium'. Whenever I see his name on the cover of a Sabrina book, I just know I am in for a good read!
The series is aimed at children within the 8-13 age bracket. For those who fall into this, it will provide them with an interesting though slightly challenging read they're sure to enjoy. Though the writing is quite small across its 160 pages so it is not too good for the less confident reader. For the more mature reader however it will provide a perfect read which requires minimal thinking but is still very entertaining.
If you wish to buy this book, you are going to have to do so online. They disappeared from shops a few years after the series finished, but thankfully they are available all over the internet. You can purchase this for just 1p on Amazon.co.uk, and even with its £2.75 postage and packaging fee, that is still a wonderful price - much better than its £4.99 RRP!
This is a wonderful book, and probably one of my favourite editions in the Sabrina novelization collection. It's exciting with its gripping plot and strong characters, and its descriptions are so vivid that you actually feel like you are watching an episode on the television. It is a delightful read that will provide a few hours of entertainment, and is perfect for any Sabrina fan or somebody simply looking for something a bit different and a bit magical. If you get the chance to read this, or indeed any others in the collection, do not let the opportunity pass!
