I am sad to report that I recently had a bad experience with Safestyle uk. I consider in hindsight that I had a lucky escape.
We had decided to get some quotes for new windows and doors etc. In spite of the fact that I detest the madman who does their tv adverts spitting 'ya buy 1 ya get 1 free' etc and I had always promised myself I would not buy from his firm, I asked for a quote. They rang me the same evening and arranged for the rep to call the next morning. He was very polite but obviously desperate for a sale. I told him VERY CLEARLY from the outset that I only wanted a quote, I would not sign anything and I had another firm quoting me the next day. He rushed us through the sales patter, he picked what he wanted and said we couldn't have the patterns WE wanted because our existing windows were too big. Then he gave us a quote which he said was special that day! I pointed out that we were getting another quote the next day. I asked him if his price would be half of theirs as his firm was giving me half of the order for free. He replied 'no, I don't think so.'
He then said will you sign this order form-it saves me coming back and you have 7 days to change your mind if you prefer Diamondseal's quote tomorrow. So we signed it on that understanding. We paid him £60.00 for a survey fee.
The following day Diamondseal called (please read separate review for them-excellent) and they were far better. The same price as safestyle but with windows we wanted, not picked for cheapness by the rep! We signed with Diamondseal.
I telephoned and notified safestyle of my wish to cancel. They said I could not cancel as I had invited the rep to my house and signed an order. I had no 'cooling off' period.I told them what the rep had said about 7 days to change my mind. They said as he had not written this on the order I had no choice but to go ahead with it.
I contacted my solicitor and the Trading standards people. I cancelled the cheque for the survey fee. To be fair to safestyle they eventually contacted me with an apology for their misleading rep and agreed to cancel the order.
I cannot recommend to anybody the services of this double glazing company. I felt more double-crossed than double glazed. Buyers beware. If you ask for a salesman to come to your house and then you sign an order you are in a difficult position if you want to cancel. The cooling off period only seems to apply if they come to your home without an appointment.
