The International Topper is a simple 12 foot single-handed dinghy and is probably the most popular dinghy in Britain. They are made from injection-moulded poly-propelene (think of washing up bowl plastic). It is cheap and robust which makes it ideal as a racing progression for children who ... Read review

Lots of laughs and good for racing too

AdvantagesFun, Cheap, durable, easy to maintain. Car-toppable. Widely recognised.

DisadvantagesNot good for oversize people. THe rest of your family will want to use it all the time

"...dinghy although when you are sailing one off the wind in a force 6 and you can’t see a damn thing for spray with your bum an inch from the water they feel anything but slow! One of the best laughs you can have as an experienced sailor is to take a mate out when it is blowing an absolute ‘hooligan’ (Force 7 or above). Once, we had over 20 stone of body weight hanging out over side and were going like a train, spray everywhere, the ..." Read review

Topper Sailing Dinghy

AdvantagesStrong and durable, affordable, simple to sail and rig

DisadvantagesLess sutable for experanced sailors

"The topper sailing dinghy is an robust, affordable sailing dinghy which can be sailed by people of all ages making it an excellent choice for families. The design of the Topper means that it can be easily and effectively reefed as required. This is important for use with children when it is often desirable to reduce the power in more than light winds. Despite this the boat is still relatively speedy and certainly give the impression of speed to ..." Read review

The Team Philips Super Jinx

AdvantagesA by and large British venture.

DisadvantagesIt doesn't seem to work.

"In the off chance that you have been living on the moon for the last little while (and that the moon doesn’t have any TV news channels) I’ll quickly remind you that the world’s biggest carbon fibre construction is a £4, 000, 000 yacht. This super-yacht has a revolutionary design and if I were cruel (okay, if I were crueller) I’d say that the revolutions in the design are the handy dandy features that allow it to snap in two and crumble to pieces. ..." Wettest scariest roller coaster ride in the world

AdvantagesThe best place to meet new friends and get great sailing tips.

DisadvantagesThe showers and toilets - Hold your nose !

"...scared ! However, if you enjoy sailing by the seat of your pants, and hanging on to the edge of the boat with only 3mm of wetsuit keeping you from a serious upside down moment then this is for you. Chichester harbour federation week regatta, hosted by Hayling Island Sailing club is the place to be. Run the week after Cowes - it's the amateur dinghy racing equivalent. The "really" serious guys (and girls) go all out to win, and for the rest ..." Read review

powerboats: sunseeeker offshore 28ft 1981

Advantagesfreedom, fun, friends, ocean, freedom.

Disadvantagesmoney. risk to life of all onboard incase of disaster

"my experience with my 28ft sunseeker offshore performance motor cruiser boat i bought a very old (1981) sunseeker offshore 28ft motor cruiser earlier this year. since then, she has skinted me with engine troubles and mooring fees (actually they are not too bad - £2000 gets you a years parking for your boat!) so the engines are a bit tricky, but the boat itself behave excellently in the sea, even in the rough stuff. the ride is comfortable, and ..."
