I have had my sainsbury's Standard Visa card now for a few years, i usually use it to pay for my shopping, internet purchases and some occasional bills, or large purchases.

I find my Sainsbury's visa works well for me, i get sent a monthly statement from them, which is clear and easy to understand, it shows your last transactions on it, any payments which have been made, your credit limit, available credit you have left. It also shows you what your minimum payment due which is 3% of your total balance and the date this is due. On the statement is a bank Giro which you can use to make a payment with. You can also pay this by Direct Debit, in any bank but they will charge you a small amount if it is not your bank or in any Sainsbury's instore banks. Also i must tell you, if you make a late payment you can be charged £20 for this, so you do have to make sure you pay in plenty of time for this to payment to reach them by due date.
You can also use the Sainsbury's credit card to withdraw cash, you must credit available though. You can withdraw cash from bank counters or any of the 270,000 ATM's world wide. But you can only withdraw a maximum of £250 per day and there is a charge of 1.5% on this.
You can use your Sainsbury's Visa abroad also, i do but try not to as i find the charges for this quite high, you are first charged a conversion charge of 1.75% of amount of purchase, then another charge for just using it which can vary. But if you do like to use it abroad and travel quite a bit, they do quite a good deal where you pay £12 a year and this will cover you while abroad for up to £3000 emergency cash incase you lose your card or it is stolen, so that you are able to pay for things like hotel bills or travel tickets.
I find Sainsbury's Visa customer services usually very helpful and polite and not had any problems with them as yet. You can apply for a card on line through Sainsbury's Bank web site, which is quite a good site and easy to use.
My personal opinion is i find this a good card if paid up well, if not can be quite costly. The Nectar rewards is a great bonus also.

...which go straight to my Sainsbury reward card and can then be used for a variety of rewards, including Air miles. Last month I paid off my bill but made a mistake and paid £20 too little. I had not realised my mistake until I recieved my next statement. I was shocked to see the amount of interest they charged. The interest rate is 1.597% per month. What I had not realised was that when you have an uncleared balance that every purchace you make on ... ...error resulted in an intrest charge of £7.49. I was shocked as I had not realised that I would be charged so much. As I did not understand why my charges were so high I rang the general enquiries desk to ask about the charge. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and explained the situation to me and very helpfully offered to remove the charge. I accepted her offer and learned a lesson. I will make sure I always pay my balance in full before I get ...

...a regular visitor to the Sainsbury store, then you can earn extra points on all of your purchases. You also earn points on all other purchases, at whatever store you use, when you decide to pay using your Sainsbury's Visa card.
You accumulate points every month and these are shown on your monthly statement. Depending on the balance of your points, you will receive Sainsbury vouchers every three months. With my own level of spending, and I try and ...

Advantages: Great points system Disadvantages: cannot think of any
I use Sainsburys for my weekly shopping all the time as i find they have unbeatable value and service. So about a year ago an instore demonstrator gave me a few leaflets about Sainsburys bank, and instead of throwing them to one side i decided to read them and it seemed like they offered a great cerdit card service, so i applied.
First of all the speed of processing your application is very quick and i had my card within 1 week of sending off my ... ...just a call away if you have any problems at all.
The introductory interest rate was 4.9% for all pruchases and balance transfers for 6 months, so by transfering the balance of my current card card a saved a fortune in interest. After that the interest rate is 19.9% which is still reasonable and about the same as a lot of other credit lenders such as Natwest and Barclays.
They don't charge you hurrendous fees for thier services either such as withdrawing ...

Advantages: Direct Debit Option and Nectar scheme Disadvantages: low credit limit
I am very satisfied with this product- it is great for the odd purchase on the internet or over the phone as it is a visa. ***How to apply***
I applied in store, where a team of promoters were advertising the card. I spoke to the advisor in depth about the visa card, and she was extremely helpful and honest about answering my queries.
I had never applied for a credit card before, so I had many questions!
The advisor helped me fill in the application ... ...option, which is filling the form in at home (forms available in Sainsbury's grocery store), as the advisor will warn you of any pitfalls which could get you rejected!
The form was posted off- no stamp required.
The same week I received the card and all the important information.
***How to use it***
Before you set off to Harrods you need to ACTIVATE your card. This involves calling a freephone number and speaking to one of the advisors, who will ...

Advantages: loyalty scheme Disadvantages: higher than average APR
If, like me (most of the time!), you pay your credit card off each month, you don't really care about low rates. What you want is perks! I have had the Sainsburys Visa for about 12 months now, having chosen it based only on the opportunities for collecting Reward points.
If you ultimately redeem the vouchers in Sainsburys for discounts on your shopping, you get the equivalent of 0.5% back for general shopping, 1.0% for purchases in Sainsburys and ... ...Hawkshead etc) and this is effectively doubled. This is not the most generous loyalty scheme available but you do have the advantage of collecting your Rewards quarterly, rather than having to wait for the end of year. Customer service is distinctly mediocre ( I believe it is the Bank of Scotland backing the card) and you cannot monitor it on-line. Still, for the frequent Sainsburys shopper with a liking for Dorothy Perkins tops, this is a interesting ...

Advantages: Builds up Nectar points for assorted goodies. Disadvantages: Cannot be used everywhere.
The Amex Nectar card. Get the forms from Sainsburys (a main Nectar point supplier) or apply on line but remember to get a Nectar card as well to use with it. All the points get transferred onto the Nectar card.
The Amex Nectar card can be used like a normal credit card in shops but, BE AWARE, there are a number of places that dont accept Amex.
In Sainsburys you get nectar points for your purchases which go straight onto your Nectar card. Then Amex also give you points each month so basically its DOUBLE Points when used at Sainsburys. Collect the points at BP, AA, Beefeater Restaurant, EDF Energy and many more.
NB: A tip if you're going big style for points. Once you registrar just the Nectar card make sure you get registered with TNS (available via the web site) you'll get 100 points just for registering, then more points when ...
Advantages: Support the staff! Disadvantages: Don't go online!
Ok, here's the view of a member of staff!
Esure, Sainsburys, Halifax and First Alternative are all the same company. Most of the work these days is coming from the internet.
if you want to support someone working hard in the UK ring up and mention the internet!!! The staff will always give you the same discount as your online discount, but we can't unless you mention it first.
If you are ring for Halifax Car insurance, then say if you have an internet discount, you will get a 10% discount.
Sainsuburys will give you a 5% discount. + 5% if you have a sainsburys credit card account.
Most people ring up and tell us they do 12k miles a year, think hard about your mileage, we cannot query it, make sure it's right. ...

Advantages: 1% cashback, convenient, good for internet Disadvantages: none
Last month I applied online for an EGG card as I had heard how you can earn money back if you use the internet a lot.
So what are the advantages of the EGG credit card?
It is just like any other credit card but with a difference you get money back each time you use it! You get 1% cashback on all purchases and 2% cashback if you shop online through designated EGG shops(eg , Dabs.com, BOL, etc. Check their website to learn more (www.egg.com). There is NO annual fee. There are no rules stating you have to use it "x" amount of times to get rewards (such as the "Sainsburys Visa card). Balance transfers are currently at 2.5%, should you need to move yours over.
How do I apply for one?
Firstly, applying is straight forward, simply apply online at www.egg.com. You will be asked a few questions of address, occupation, salary etc. You ...
