Advantages: taste is high, price is low Disadvantages: all that sugar!
Fizzy drinks? I love 'em! The thing is, I drink a lot of Coca-Cola, and the price, while seeming low at the time, contributes to the gradual decrease in my bank balance. I've tried other own-brand colas before but they're nothing like the real thing - too artificial-tasting, too sweet, not fizzy enough, too fizzy...the list goes on. But then I spotted Sainsburys Classic Cola, and have been hooked on it ever since.
Classic Cola is available ... .../>
- 2 litre bottle, 89p
- 500ml bottle, 49p
- 6 x 330ml cans, £1.59
- 24 x 330ml cans, £2.99
- 12 x 330ml cans, £1.99
- single cans, for around 40p
Also available in diet variety, for the same price.
As you can see, it's much cheaper than Coca Cola, but only available in Sainsburys. However, in Sainburys you can also earn Nectar points, so it's even more of a bargain!

Classic Cola is available from Sainsburys in the following sizes, for the following prices:
- 2 litre bottle, 89p - 500ml bottle, 49p - 6 x 330ml cans, £1.59 - 24 x 330ml cans, £2.99 - 12 x 330ml cans, £1.99 - single cans, for around 40p

I have sitting in front of me a 330ml can of the stuff. You can tell it's cola of some description just from the colour of the can - yes, it's red. "Sainburys Classic Cola" adorns the sides of the can in big white letters - the packaging is simple, but effective. On the back is the list of ingredients and nutritional information - as with other colas, the list of ingredients is horrendous to look at, consisting of sugar, flavourings, caffeine and the like. Sugar is second on the list of ingredients, so don't expect this to be massively healthy...
Calorie-wise, this comes in at 144kcal per can, so it's not too calorific, but it still won't do you any good. Fat content is incredibly low (less than 0.1g per can), so I guess it could be worse. The product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and probably anyone else who isn't hypersensitive to sugar or caffeine.
Pull back the ringpull, and the stuff will fizz up just like real coke does if your friend has shaken the can without telling you before you open it...grr.... At least this way I get to smell the stuff properly, I guess - and it's very much like real Coke. The colour is identical (the same colour features on both list of ingredients, though, so it's not surprising), and the taste...? Well, it the most similar tasting cola I've found so far. It does err a little on the sweet side for a cola, but if, like me, you have an exceptional sweet tooth, then I'm sure this won't be a problem! The level of fizziness is just right - it's not so flat that it tastes like cheap cola, but not so fizzy that it fills your nostrils and leaves you spluttering constantly for the next ten minutes. All in all, a very similar tasting product to "the real thing", and great value for money.
Advantages: Great tasting, reasonable Disadvantages: Ask the dentists :)
...regular basis. However, I tried Sainsbury's Classic Cola and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised.
Coming in a similarly styled can as Coca-Cola, in fact they were forced to change the original design of the can as it was ruled too similar to the Coca-Cola brand, the taste of this product is actually quite nice. Unlike many of the other brands of cola such as Pepsi, Marks and Spencers cola and others, Classic Cola doesn't try and imitate. ... ...can only be purchased in Sainsbury's stores, however if you do shop there, this can also be an advantage as not only is it cheaper than Coca-Cola, you can also earn the Sainsbury's reward points on it, and in addition being an own brand, it is subject to regular special offers to increase sales.
Overall this is a surprisingly pleasant drink for an own brand and in my opinion rates right up there along side its more famous competitors, and in terms ...

Advantages: Good Value For Money Disadvantages: Only Available From Sainsbury's
...as in the case of Sainsbury's Classic Cola, which has established itself as a brand of Cola without setting out to directly copy its closest rivals Coca Cola or Pepsi.
So why has Sainsbury's Classic Cola become so successful and what sets it apart from its rivals?
Well in short the success of this Coca is three pronged, based on Price, Taste and Marketing.
The Price - This product is available in several different formats as below, the prices ... ...normal.
So on price Sainsbury's Classic Cola wins every time compared against Coca Cola and its similarly priced rival Pepsi.
The taste - This is without a shadow of a doubt the most important category. I have bought Classic Cola on a fairly regular basis and I find it to be a very acceptable taste. As with most soft fizzy drinks it is quite sweet but unlike most other budget price Colas it is not oversweet which is one of the main problems that ...

...with the review.
When Sainsbury's changed their own brand cola to the now familiar classic variety. It had a major overhaul of its design, into what we see gracing the soft drink shelves of Sainsbury's today. At least one of the major "Cola" companies became quite upset and took legal advise with regards to copyright infringement, this has become quite fuzzy in my mind as time has passed. I seem to remember that the first design was deemed to be ... ...the major company took the Sainsbury's Classic Cola to be.
I feel sure that the re-branding and the subsequent err watchful eye of the major company prove just how confident Sainsbury's felt with their Cola. Being honest I think they have every right to feel proud of this product.
How can I explain the taste? Well it is a Cola in the true classical sense of the word, it does not try to pretend to be another brand, it tries (very successfully) to ...

Advantages: Cheap but with a fantastic flavour Disadvantages: I cant think of any
I started buying Sainsbury's Classic Cola when we were skint as it was nice and cheap and it was so good we now drink it all the time. At a cost of 79p per 2 litre bottle or £2.69 for 4 x 2ltr bottles it is excellent value for money. It has a fantastic taste which me and my husband prefer to Pepsi or Coke so the fact it is such a low price is a bonus.
The nutritional value is as follows (per 250ml serving): -
Energy 459kj
108kcal
Protein less ... ...27.0g
of which sugars 27.0g
Fat less than 0.1g
of which saturates 0.0g
of which mono-unsaturates less than 0.1g
Fibre 0.0g
Salt 0.0g
of which sodium 0.1g
It is only ever bottles of this that I drink, I did try the cans once but found them to be lacking in the flavour and satisfaction of a drink from the bottle so would not reccoment the cans but find that the bottles are fantastic.
I hope you enjoyed reading my review and found it helpful, ...

Well having written an opinion on Sainsbury's classiccola a while back, I thought it was only fair to write one about the original cola drink. In many ways, Coke is still the best drink out there on the market.
Coca-Cola was originally started way back in the late 19th century. Back in those days the drink was a far more powerful stimulant than the one on our shelves today, containing many strong ingredients including small quantities of Cocaine. However, the cocaine was removed from the drink when controversy over the health aspects of the drug were raised in the early part of the 20th century.
These days Coke is available in single cans, multipacks as well as 500ml, 1 and 2litre bottles. The cost of a can is around about 35p, with multipacks of 6, 12, 24 and 36 available at more reasonable prices. (around £6 for 36). The bottles ...

, the answer is Pepsi. Everyone knows Cola tastes better than lemonades and orangeades, so that narrows down your choice quite a lot. Dr Pepper is another question. Anyway, it comes down to:
Coke
Pepsi
Pepsi Max
Virgin ColaClassicCola (Sainsbury's)
OK. Coke is the big one, the daddy, the makers of the curvy bottle, the one with 50% of the market, the one with the CEO that wants to see the 'C' on the cold tap meaning Coke. Basically, Coke is far too sugary, and unless you are a little kid and want to run around fast for a few minutes. It's quite smooth, and less gassy than some of the others and altogether isn't a bad choice. Diet Coke is Coke with less syrup and more water. 7/10
Pepsi is the second biggest make, and the best. Not too sugary, a slightly sharper taste than Coke, just about gassy enough. The choice of the Dawson coins ...
