I went to a dinner party last night, because that's the sort of sophisticated thing I do these days. Most of you have probably never been to a dinner party have you? I expect you'd like me to illuminate this decadent world of glamour, and give you tantalising insights into the elegant majesty of such an occasion, while you weep quietly into your Pot Noodle. The food! The people! The impeccable cutlery! Yeah, well, I'm not going to. And if you wouldn't mind keeping your proletarian noses out of my business in future, it would be much appreciated. The only reason I mention the party, is because ... more

Advantages Advantages A really DRY wine

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not for the 'medium' drinkers!

I have just read Blurbubble’s opinion about Sainsbury’s Soave and I realised that although I love this wine, I had never written an opinion about it. Now, when there’s a choice of sweet or dry in any drink – cider, sherry, and wine – I go for dry and I mean DRY! Just to give you an example of what I mean, I went to a beer festival some years ago, went to the cider stand and asked for a dry cider. It is actually given a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good price

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rather acidic

Hmmmm, I think I’ve left a suitable little interlude between wines…..writing about them that is, not drinking them! Ever on the hunt for a bargain bottle (strict budget you understand – there’s only so much wine I can buy in a week and unfortunately that doesn’t match what I can drink!) I was trawling the shelves of Sainsbury’s with my hawkeye(s) looking for the special offers again. Ah! There we are! A bottle of dry white wine for only £2.59 – that’ll be the one! On this occasion it turned out to be Sainsbury’s Soave – an Italian dry white wine. It’s normally priced at £2.99 for a standard ... more

Advantages Advantages very cheap, good for the price

Disadvantages Disadvantages obviously if you paid more you'd get better

Being young and on a tight budget I've found this wine is really pretty good for what it is. That is, its nothing special, nothing really to make you say "wow", but it sure is cheap! It'll vary depending on whereabouts in the country you buy it, but even in central London it should be under £3. For being one of the cheapest wines in the supermarket, its not half as bad as it could be. Its very dry (which I like) and fairly crisp. It will immediately hit you with a warm sensation in the throat and a bit of a buzz, and if you are looking for something cheap to get a bit tipsy on you could do a ... more
