Advantages Cheap, does the job, disposable
Disadvantages Not suitable for a big party
We didn’t have a proper bbq for much of last summer, so when we wanted a bbq we decided to make do with an instant bbq as we were only having a couple of friends around and money was a little tight at the time. We ended up purchasing the Sainsburys Instant Party BBQ as our friends had used this one themselves and reckoned it was ok.
Until this time I had never tried a disposable bbq before and wasn’t particularly convinced by them. I just couldn’t see how they could cook food thoroughly in order to avoid any kind of food poisoning. However, I was assured that this wouldn’t be a problem so went along with it.
To use you simply remove the clear packaging and the cardboard and light the paper. As it is only quite a small bbq, it doesn’t take long for it to start burning at all. It took around 5-10 minutes for the flames to die down enough to be able to cook the food but that wasn’t a problem as we expected it.
I didn’t personally cook the food, my partner did but it didn’t seem to take any longer than a standard bbq to thoroughly cook the food which impressed me. I was a little hesitant by this as I was concerned that maybe the food hadn’t been cooked through but it was absolutely fine and really tasty. The sausages etc had a really nice chargrilled taste to it, just like a proper bbq would.
The bbq stayed hot long enough for us to be able to cook all the food we had, which we couldn’t do all in one go as the grill part itself wasn’t big enough to accommodate all the food we had but there wasn’t any issue of the bbq going out or cooling down so all the food was cooked to perfection.
For our purpose, this bbq was fine but it wouldn’t be any use if you were to have a large amount of people around as it just doesn’t take enough food in one go to be able to supply a larger party of people. We only had four people at our bbq and this instant bbq would have struggled to accommodate enough food to supply any more people than 4.
I can’t remember the exact price we paid for this but I am sure it was between £2-3.00 which is excellent value for money in my opinion and well worth it.
Obviously when using a product such as this, there are some safety precautions to take into consideration such as not disposing of it until it is completely cool but provided you use common sense, there really shouldn’t be a problem.
Overall, my initial reservations were unfounded as this turned out to be a very decent instant bbq. We have since purchased a proper bbq so will have no need for this during the forthcoming summer months, but should the need arise again for an instant bbq, then I would happily purchase this one again and it comes with a high recommendation from me.
