You may have read my review from yesterday, I spoke about how we had used an instant BBQ for the first time and I had been really pleased with the results. We love having a BBQ I our household, I love the taste of food that has been cooked on a BBQ as well as eating outdoors; it always tastes so much better to me. When we go away for a camping weekend or when we have even gone down to the river or sea for the day, we take our BBQ with us; it is easily transportable and makes things that little bit cheaper instead of eating out. We tend to keep a bag of charcoal with us as well and the latest one that we have tried is the Sainsbury’s Instant Lighting Charcoal. Here are my thoughts on the product.
As I mentioned the charcoal is from Sainsbury’s, the store has just opened up next door to my other half’s workplace so we are getting more and more from there. The bag of charcoal that we have is the 1.5kg bag and this comes as part of a 4 piece set. You will be looking at paying around £11.00 but my other half got a great offer which was the 2 for £15.00 on BBQ product’s which meant we got 8 charcoal bags for the £15.00 price tag, a brilliant offer ad well worth trying to catch if you can.
The bag comes and is nothing really that special to look at; I guess it wouldn’t be when you are going to be setting fire to it! The bag of charcoal tends to be all black in colour, there is the Sainsbury’s logo on the front and name of the product. There is also a picture of a BBQ as well. On the reverse is a good list of instructions on how to use the product which is really important as when we first go this I thought you would rip the bag open to reveal the charcoal and then light it but in fact you are told that you light the bag and there is no ripping involved!!!
The bag sat under the grill on our small kettle BBQ, it was easy to operate and all we did was take a lighter to the one side and it soon started to flame up, right from the word go the heat and flames were quite intense but after a few minutes this settled down and we found that the charcoal started to burn at a good even rate, I was pleased that we were able to soon start cooking, the heat was constant and really cooked the food well. As this was so strong and performing well I think you could even cook some jacket potatoes and dishes that need a little longer with this charcoal. I chopped some vegetables and made foil parcels and this was cooked really well on there so again, an impressive product.
I would advise that you let the charcoal start to burn a good 20 minutes before you start cooking, it is hard to get to close as it is really warm and also the charcoal will still be cooker in some places than others but after the 20 minutes I found the heat to be more even and ready to go.
In summary, I am happy to recommend this product, a good price and really handy if you are into camping or BBQ’s when out and about. Effective and efficient and an end result being a lovely BBQ meal!
4 out of 5 from me on this one
