Saint Seiya is based on Greek mythology (not entirely though), where the Goddess Athena will be reincarnated as human every few hundred years as evil appears to threaten the world. And the Goddess is protected by her loyal saint fighters wearing saint clothes (almost all of them are the name of zodiac constellations). It ranges from Bronze Saints, Silver Saints to the most powerful ones Gold Saints whose saint clothes are the 12 zodiacs that we know. But the main heroes are the 5 bronze saints.
As the game starts, players are only given 10 characters to play with. The 5 main bronze saints "Pegasus Seiya, Cygnus Hyoga, Dragon Shiryu, Andromeda Shun, and Phoenix Ikki" in their old broken saint clothe and their new ones revived and repaired by the blood of Goddess Athena. As players advance into the game, new characters will be unlocked and playable, some require more difficult requirements than another.
Controls are quite basic like most fighting games, releasing special skills are very simple unlike most fighting games where players are required to perform key combination on the control pad. In this game, players only need to charge up cosmo power and hold them as player press one of four main buttons on the controller, all characters have 3 levels of special attacks and each represented by one of the buttons. This special attacks can be retaliated by the opponent causing the screen change to cosmo collision screen, there will be sequence of buttons to press and if successful the retaliating side will win and attack the attacker instead. Your character will also accumulate 7th senses for each battle which resulting the awakening of 7th senses enabling your character to perform special attacks without consuming cosmo power, this only applies for each battle and won't be carried away to the next one. Special attacks are animated just like the animation version (nicely done too :-) ).
Graphic is not the main appeal, storyline is, especially for Saint Seiya fans, soundtrack and sound effects are good. In general it's worth a try if you like fighting games based from one of Japanese most famous animation.
